  1. This is confusing:

On recent post one of the members said they were running libdvdcss 2 for Handbrake.

I did a search which said go to VLC libdvdcss page. The only thing that is on that is v 1.4.3 said
    to be the latest.

The software group here on videohelp does not show it. Who has the right story on this?
It may prove a correction for a Win10 problem I've discussed elsewhere.

  2. This is the Google AI Overview explanation:

libdvdcss and libdvdcss-2.dll are related to enabling Handbrake to rip protected DVDs. libdvdcss is the core library, while libdvdcss-2.dll is the specific file used for Windows systems. Handbrake itself doesn't include the ability to bypass DVD copy protection; it relies on external libraries like libdvdcss to achieve this.
    Here's a breakdown:

    libdvdcss:
    .

This is a free and open-source library that allows programs like Handbrake to access and decrypt DVDs protected by the Content Scramble System (CSS).
    libdvdcss-2.dll:
    .
This is the specific file that contains the libdvdcss library for Windows systems. It needs to be placed in the Handbrake installation folder to allow Handbrake to work with protected DVDs.
I believe I got the libdvdcss-2.dll from Xreveal but VLC also has a download for it.
If your OS is working with the libdvdcss 1.4.3 available from videohelp it is probably a good version also.

  3. I am now curious as to why or why not videohelp software does not have it in it's available stuff whereas they do have the 1.4.3. At this time I don't know if it's any help at all but would avoid chasing all over the download.

  4. @ loninappleton,
    I downloaded & opened the libdvdcss-dll-1.4.3.zip file.
    Inside are a 32 & 64 folder.
Inside those folders is a libdvdcss-2.dll for either 32-bit or 64-bit OS.
I should have done this earlier.
The libdvdcss-2.dll is larger than the one I had.
I'm testing with a faster program than Handbrake but this libdvdcss-2.dll seems to be working fine.

  5. Today I did find libdvdcss-2, installed it to Win10 and no change, so Davenext was right (as usual)

I'll now put libdvdcss 1.4.3 back where it was and call it a day.
