Got a weird issue with my Sony DCR-TRV8E. The Camera and VCR/Player modes seem to be reversed:
– In Camera mode, I can play tapes
– In VCR mode, it tries to record
Because of that, I can’t properly digitize via FireWire – iMovie recognizes the cam, but there’s no video signal in the expected mode (just a blue screen).
Tapes and functions seem fine otherwise. Has anyone seen this before? Is there any fix or known cause (switch issue, firmware bug, internal fault)?
Before I get a second cam just for playback, I’d love to try fixing this. Any help appreciated.

I would spray a shot of Detoxit under the CAM/VCR mode switch then work it out and go from there.
