  1. I have had a Hauppauge Colossus for many years and have been satisfied with it.
I am trying to update my system to Windows 11.
For a few weeks, the Colossus seemed to work fine.
Occasionally, when starting WinTV7, I would get a "no tuner available" message. A simple restart would fix the issue.
Now, I am getting this message every time I try to launch WinTV7 or ArcSoft Showbiz.
I understand that these are very old programs, but I believe the fault is in the system supporting the Colossus card.
Has anyone been able to get a Colossus card to work with Windows 11?
Is there any service or driver that I can toggle or restart that might coax it to work?

    Thanks

I do not have a Colossus, but I have a PVR-2. Got a new Windows 11 laptop earlier this year and could not get ArcSoft Showbiz to work (It was worth a shot).
Hauppauge has a newer capture program that works with W11, check their website. Hopefully somebody else will chime in with a solution for you.

    Found this using Google Search

The Hauppauge Colossus, specifically the original Colossus board, is compatible with Windows 11, but may require disabling the "Memory Integrity" feature in Windows 11 for proper driver installation and functionality. Older Colossus models, along with some other Hauppauge products, may encounter driver issues on Windows 11, which are resolved by disabling Memory Integrity. The Hauppauge website provides information on this workaround.
    Elaboration:
    Compatibility:
While the original Colossus is generally compatible with Windows 11, certain older Hauppauge devices, including the Colossus, may face driver issues when using the standard Windows 11 drivers. This can be due to the "Memory Integrity" feature, which might conflict with the Colossus's drivers.
    Memory Integrity Workaround:
To resolve these issues, you can temporarily disable the "Memory Integrity" setting in Windows 11's advanced features. This will allow the Colossus driver to be installed and used without conflict.
    Driver Installation:
The Hauppauge website offers specific instructions on how to download and install the Colossus drivers, including reboots and other necessary steps.
    Colossus 2:
The Colossus 2 model, a newer version of the Colossus, is designed to be compatible with Windows 11 and other Windows versions, offering features like studio-quality HD video encoding and recording from HDMI sources.

    Hope this helps

  4. No luck so far.

I gave the Memory Integrity path a try, and still "NO Tuner Available"

This really feels like a driver issue, or a service that is hanging.

Does anyone else have an idea?
Is there a log file, service to be restarted, driver to be updated or something?

it is frustrating, because I have seen this work on this set up. It is just inconsistent and seems to be getting less likely to work as time has gone on.

    Thanks in advance

you can try to allocate part of your hard disk to a Windows 10 partition and install the Colossus there with all the drivers and test.
I used Oracle VirtualBox with great success many times in the past. Perhaps 50GB is more than enough.

Yeah, except Widows 10 is going out of support soon. My whole desire to move to Windows 11 is to get off Windows 10.
It would be OK if I isolated the machine and had no network connection to it. But I would prefer to figure out what is going on.
    Thanks though

I see. Well you can still use Oracle Virtualbox partition and install a fresh clean Windows 11 on it, just in case your current computer has a lot of apps that are causing conflict with the Colossus card.
BTW which version do you have?

Version of Colossus? Not sure how to tell. It is NOT Colossus 2, I know that. If there are sub-releases of Colossus original, I am unsure how to tell.

This is a very clean install of Windows 11. Haven't really installed much else on it at all. So this isn't a conflict with other software. Just an incompatibility with Windows 11.

And it really seems like something is failing to start. Occasionally it will work. So I know everything CAN function properly.

Sorry I have run out of ideas.
You can try taking your card out and install it in another PCI-E slot if there is one. Just make sure the contacts are clean first.

  10. So I have found a workable, if not ideal, solution.
I will update this post if I ever find a better solution.

TLDR: Installing the drivers, and then rebooting will allow the software (winTV7 and ArcSoft ShowBiz, and I assume others) to work for one session. Reboot and they will fail. Then resinstall the drivers, reboot, and you have another working session.

I have copied my original install CD to my hard drive as an ISO file.
Open the ISO file and run setup.exe
Select the first option to install the drivers.
    Reboot.
The software will work until the computer is rebooted.

Currently I do have Memory integrity in Core isolation turned OFF, but I don't think that matters.

    Trying updated drivers from
    https://s3.amazonaws.com/hauppauge/drivers/colossus_1_8_31093.zip
didn't work. I was never able to get anything to function at all.

Of note, in the above zip is a handy utility hcwclear.exe
It deletes all Hauppauge software. Handy for troubleshooting
