  1. Hi,

I have multiple 4 hour long .mp4 files that I want to burn to DVDs. I know I basically need to have 2 DVDs per .mp4. I can split the video file myself fine using video editing software, but just wondering if there was any DVD burning software that I could use that would just do it for me as part of the burning process just to save me some time/effort in having to manually edit each .mp4 into 2 separate ones.

I generally use AVStoDVD to burn my DVDs, so if anyone knows how to do it on there that'd be great, but also happy to use any other software.

    Thanks

  2. You could also compress the 4 hour video to fit in 1 DVD.

Depends if @dangalel is burning a "proper" DVD. 4 hours of MPEG 2 in 4 GB will look ghastly.

    Dual Layer? Different story.

  4. Thanks for the replies. Don't want to compress or use Dual Layer, just a DVD burning software that I can use, put in the 4 hour long .mp4 file and it will burn it over 2 DVDs.

  5. You could useFFMPEG.
Or ProWo's Clever an FFMPEG GUI.
Use the Cut function & use the search for I-Frames to get the best point for the cut.
Use a time about in the middle at an I-Frame.
Keep track of the end time used on the first Cut.
Use that for the start time of the second Cut.

The use AVStoDVD to create a DVD5. From the two Cut .mp4s.
It will depend on the size of the .mp4s.So AVStoDVD might compress some.
If that is the case then you will need to do 3 equal Cuts if you want NO Compression.

DVD is mpeg-2, A2D ALWAYS compresses unless your source is already compliant mpeg-2

    Good to know.
Any way to tell how much A2D compresses using a .mp4 as source ?
Assuming the source .mp4 is not compliant mpeg-2 .

I was thinking as long as the DVD size output was less than 4.35 GB there would be no compression.

It depends on the length of the clip(s) in hours and minutes.
Bitrate would normally be between 5 - 9 mbps overall,
The lower end because the quality degrades quickly, and the upper end is the format limit

  9. @ davexnet,
Of course I do not have the OP's videos.
I will see if I have any about 2 hours long in .mp4 & give A2D a try with one.
Checking the bit rate HCEnc says it is using.
