  1. Hi,

I have a Samsung SD Card (512 GB) evo plus. I put some movie files in it and I watch them on my Macbook m2 pro. I am using the Ugreen Sd card reader.

When I play video files (usually at least 1080p) off the SD card, it can sometimes (or often) lag and freeze for a few seconds and then get back to normal. I tried the same sd card on my Android tablet as well and it is the same thing or even worse. The audio was playing but the view was frozen for around 10 seconds.

What is the reason for this? I believe the SD card and mac is fast enough to play the video file without any pauses. Is it because of the Card reader?

  2. Copy one movie from the SD card to your harddisk and play it.
If it's play fine, then there is a problem in the reader/SC card combination.

I just did that and the video file did not lag at all. But I am wondering if it has sth to do with the sd card or the reader. SD cards are pretty standard, I don't think Evo plus is slow.

Maybe the card reader is slow but it is one of the good readers of Ugreen.

  4. Also I noticed that when I plug in the sd card, it takes some time to read the sd card and show the drive in the Locations. When I plug in an external harddisk, it shows the drive very quickly. I am not sure if the sd card is faulty. Also the card reader heats up quickly when transferring a file or playing a video.

  5. You could try to reformat the SD card (full format, not quick).

  6. Since you have a large size SD card 512 GB.
You should largest allocation size available when formatting the SD card.
This is probably 64kilobytes. At least for Windows Explorer format.
This allows better response for large files like video files.
If you are using a format other than NTFS then the largest allocation for that type file system.
    exFAT for example.

  8. I have never use a macos.
So I have no idea on how an SD card is formatted by a Mac.
Or how it should be formatted.

I probably could find out how by Googling but so could you.

I think a better system for playback would be to use a 2.5" SSD 512GB enclosed in a Ugreen SSD enclosure like the one I use.
The playback is superb and it never gets hot
The cost would be about the same as the SSD enclosure is about $10
