    Hi..

I just upgraded my computer. I've been encoding movies in a while. I have Pirates of the caribbean on 4k disc. I ripped a copy onto my computer.

The video stream is HEVC and the audio stream is 7.1 and 5.1. What would be the best program to use to shrink everything down and keep the audio formats intact? I would want to leave it to play as a HD4k disc?

    Thank you

  2. If you want to shrink your 4K HEVC movie while keeping both the 7.1 and 5.1 audio tracks intact, I'd recommend checking out HandBrake. It supports 4K HEVC content, allows you to select and pass through multiple audio tracks, and gives you control over video compression. Just be sure to use the MKV container for best compatibility with multiple audio tracks.

Another good options are some other paid software. They are a bit more advanced, support a wide variety of formats, and can keep original audio streams if you set the output settings accordingly. Both programs let you customize bitrate and resolution, so you can keep it in 4K (HD4K) while saving some space.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering, would you know what settings in handbrake would I choose. I am trying to find a youtube video or something. Also, would I be able to convert that to a disc?

  4. I have not done what you are wanting to do.
I can tell you that Handbrake only outputs to .mp4 or .mkv.
If you want write(burn) to a bluray disc you will need to convert to bluray format.
That would be an encode with Handbrake & another encode to convert the .mkv back to bluray format.

If what you want is to compress the bluray & keep the bluray format.
I believe BD Rebuilder can do this.

Also you will need program that can write to a bluray disc.
    ImgBurn for example.

    The exception:
ImgBurn can write a Data disc to bluray disc with formats like .mp4 or .mkv.
Those will not auto play & will not be compatable with all settop BD players.
