The first Mini PC was set up using a Microsoft Account and is Windows 11 Home. They are both updated to 24H2; the new one is Windows 11 Pro and set up with a personal account. I wouldn't mind putting in a password and such to access the files and I looked in my records for when I set up the first mini pc and it said the login and password were wrong. I have a pin number I have to put in to sign into the first computer. I am thinking I will add a personal account to the first PC and see if that is of any use.

What does show up under network in my Modem with some folders that I am not allowed to put anything into. Though that could be for if I plug a thumb drive into the modem to share files.

Thank you guys for the information you have provided. You know I am not the only one who learns it is others that may run across the thread as well.

The network shares should show up under "Computer", but you may need Network Discovery to be on.
Also make sure the services are running and not disabled

  4. I've bought the GMKTech K6 as well. What a great little box it is. Slapped a spare 2TB NVME SSD in the second port and it works like a dream. Not bad at all for £204 delivered (in 5 days as well) - it really is a no brainer.

I used the Semi-Automated Scripted install of Devine and it worked first time (well, after I tweaked a couple of lines of the script). It's lightening quick for re-encoding into 720p (I never keep anything above 720p).

I got obsessed with setting up the N_m3u8 DL-RE Fork of Devine set up and did manage it eventually. It is nice to see that someone else bought the same make and model of Mini PC as me. Did you have any trouble setting up and network and sharing the contents of folders?

I feel like a salesman for Mini PCs as quite a few programs are reaching their limit with Windows 7 so I encourage people to add a mini pc to their PC world as they are not that expensive and they are small and versatile. Also it is nice to not be limited by the 2 TB hard drive limit that goes with older PCs. As you can run across sales where 4 and 5 TB hard drives are only 30 or 40 dollars more than a 2 TB hard drive.

I have been getting a message on YT-DLP as of late the end is near for it to run on Windows 7 or to be updated to run on Windows 7. Getting a mini pc doesn't mean your Windows 7 Desktop is useless you can still do a lot offline with those powerhouse machines.

  6. Windows 7 is a bit too long in the tooth now, it's not something I would still use and would definitely upgrade the PC that it is on to Windows 11. I'm running Windows 11 on my first NUC that I bought way back in 2014 (4th gen processor) and it runs fine (I've actually got 4 NUCs in all, they are great for home lab stuff. I was running a whole SCCM enviornment on it when I was deploying Windows 7 in a hospital).

I didn't have any problems at all with sharing folders. I just go into the properties of the folder I want to share, then sharing, then advanced sharing, click on share this folder, click on permissions and grant everyone permissions. When you share a folder in windows it automatically enables ICMP in the firewall as well so your PC will respond to a ping.

I also use the same username/password on all my home PCs so I just connect to the share and it just works as it passes through the username and password. If you use a different username/password, you can either map a drive or go into a command prompt and type in "NET USE \\IP of remote PC\sharename /u:username password" and that will authenticate you. Windows is pretty simple for file sharing fortunately.
