Ok, I have copied quite a few DVDs to DVD-R now, but every now and then I'll burn a bunch of VOBs that work perfect in PowerDVD, and once burned, will not work in my standalone player. PowerDVD is usually good for testing a DVD structure. Is there another way to verify the structure of a DVD before burning it? I hate to throw out these expensive DVD-Rs...

Expensive? I thought that you said you only paid $2.20 a piece for them!!
Your other alternative is to burn a "test" DVD on to DVD-RW media and see if this plays on the set top DVD. This is especially important if you are removing .VOBs from the original compilation so that they will fit on a DVD-R (sometimes, considerable manipulation of the .IFOs need to be done before these disks will play on a set top). -
When a CD-R costs 20 cents, a DVD-R costs over 10x's as much...THATS EXPENSIVE!!!
...and thanks for the suggestion but i dont think my dvd player will play dvd-rw's
