I have a DV type 2 AVI file from DV tape. It has no display of Date/Time but it is there within the file.

The DVdate app can display the Date/Time on screen while within the app. I was hoping to export it to a new Type 2 DV file (lossless) with the inlay of date/times but cannot see how.

When I use convert to Type 1 it doesn't contain the inlaid date/time.

Is the inlay feature only for display purpose only ?

There is software that can use the date code to "imprint" it onto the video. That Magix NLEs (MMS and VPX) do this for titling purposes.

You certainly won't get a "lossless" file if the date is imprinted into the video.

Thanks Alwyn. That answers my question. So the DVdate app doesn't have an option to imprint it. Several years back I did a workaround to get the date/times onto the .mp4 scenes (#3. see post 5) from this tape but thought that it would be possible using this app to get a copy of DV file with date/times.

Off topic but I don't see why you would want to hard code the date and time onto the video frame? They are not pleasant to watch, I've had people asking me if they can remove them from the video because their parents recorded them on due to lack of knowledge on how to use the camcorder, not the other way around.

Hi dellsam34, not really that much off topic. I agree with not having them displaying for all frames. I prefer to display for a few seconds #3. at start of each recording. That's what I didn't do with this tape, I had it set for #2.

The in camcorder options were #1. on for all, #2. off for all and #3 on for several seconds at start of recording.

This is an interesting option also. https://www.videohelp.com/software/Visual-DV-Time-Stamp

I tried the trial version. Has anyone purchased this recently ?
