I've got an old Panasonic DVD recorder which no longer boots up. About the only video on it I would like to recover is my Daughters wedding. Is there any way, if I remove the hard disc, to locate this video and copy it over to another Panasonic recorder?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

You could try removing the HDD and trying ISOBuster. I've heard that works.

  3. Agree, ISObuster is probably your best bet, costs about $60. You basically would then need to put the drive into a USB hard drive adapter and connect it to to the computer with ISObuster installed. ISObuster I believe will let you run it to make sure it can "see" the files you want to recover, so you really aren't out anything if you download the trial version and at least verify that it can see the files before buying it.

You might also want to just look inside to see if there are any obvious reasons it isn't woking such as bulged or visibly leaking power supply capacitors.

Thanks for that. It's a very old machine so I didn't want to get into expensive repairs. I'll definitely look into the Isobuster solution.

    Cheers

Just a recap if you don't mind. Can you give me an example of a USB hard drive adapter? There seem to be a confusion of different types online.

  7. You'd have to attach a picture of the drive's data connector and we can identify based on that.
