Hello,
I have converted a batch of AVI, MOV, MP4 and MPEG files to MKV file format using Handbrake. Doing that has resulted in losing location and date of origin metadata. I have used a whole load of meta data editors but none has been able to do what I like to.
Is someone around here who has experience with this issue? I have tried exiftool which came quite close but doesn't allow me to save these options.
I'm looking forward to your responses.
Regards,
Remi

Which location/date metadata do you mean exactly?
What exactly do you want to change? -
mkv support a bunch of official tags (see: https://www.matroska.org/technical/tagging.html) which you could use mkvmerge set, see: https://www.matroska.org/technical/tagging.html and https://mkvtoolnix.download/doc/mkvmerge.html#mkvmerge.tags
(You probably want to set RECORDING_LOCATION and DATE_RECORDED or 'misuse' the presonal->comment tag.)
I don't know of a tool which will automatically copy and convert random named tags of avi/mov/mp4/mpeg containers to mkv compatible tags.
(probably not hard to write, in case you know your way around a programming language)
So you probably will end up doing manually with mkvmerge.
Side note: mkvmerge also allows custom tags, but you probably would have to write your own tool to read/display those again.users currently on my ignore list: deadrats, Stears555, marcorocchini -
Hello,
So I have tried several different applications such as exiftool, MKVtoolnix and aiseesoft video converter ultimate. They all have some ability to change the metadata but not as far as I would like to go.
For example I have this video file.

I have converted it to this file

I would like to change the Date Time Original field. But sadly enough I'm unable to do so. I'm ok with doing this manually if I need to. I also have minimal experience with scripting and understanding the script which ffmpeg for example use.
If you guys are able to help me I would be most appreciative.

I use this.
I'm not sure if that's what you need/want.
It will mean manually changing each file. Unless they can be grouped.

BulkFileChanger is a small utility that allows you to create files list from multiple folders, and then make some action on them - Modify their created/modified/accessed time, change their file attribute (Read Only, Hidden, System), run an executable with these files as parameter, and copy/cut paste into Explorer.

Thank you, the software works just find and quickly allows me to change the dates. But is seems there is some sort of layering in the meta data. This blocks me from changing the origin date of the video.
Do you happen to know software that goes deeper in to the these files which allow me to change that data as well?

BulkFileChanger is all I've used. I've had no need to investigate further.
Have you tried this? https://www.videohelp.com/software/Change-Date-Time-Batch
