  1. Hi thanks for reading. I'm a pretty handy guy but not a DVD technician. Here's my situation. I picked up a used DVD player at a thrift sale today and the disk drawer is not opening. I opened the unit and quickly determined that the disk motor attempts to drop, but doesn't seem to have the power to break away from the upper magnetic disk, therefore the whole eject function fails. When I removed the upper part of the disk housing so that the upper disk is not present, the eject function works normally. I removed the disk carrier unit and inspected for any abnormalities but found nothing unusual.

I'm not sure if the rubber drive belt is slipping when it tries to initiate the drop down of the motor breaking the bond with the upper magnetic disk.

Wondering if the belt is stretched since it drives the whole sequence. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a defect Drive Belt, you can try to force unlock with a paper clip and chage the drive belt without opening the complete DVD

I have a PC with a typical desktop optical drive that does the same thing,
for the same reason. My solution is to always keep a disk in there, then it opens when I want it to.

You just have to remember to put a disk back in after you open it and take out
    the one you just used

  6. Just search "Optical drive belts"

Amazon,Walmart,Newegg,& ebay have assortments & some multiple individual sizes.

This site is in the UK.I have NEVER used them.
They have individual sizes. The cost with shipping may be prohibitive.
