  1. I generally watch bluray movies on my bluray player in my computer - no problems. However this one bluray I bought looks like it was resurfaced or something - looks very clean no scratches, but the drive starts to read it and it keeps reading and spinning making a bit of noise then more spinning but just doesn't seem to recognize the bluray disc.

Is there anyway I can recover it?

It seems like I need to do some lower command level trickery or something. Like maybe use Linux with ddrescue or maybe use unstoppable copier, maybe ISO puzzle or something like that. All I need to do is to be able to read the disc, or somehow get the information to a readable disc.

Any ideas? Or is that bluray disc dead?

  2. Does the disc play on the standalone player and only fails when played on PC? Blu-ray discs need to be decrypted for playback on PC.

  3. No go on a standalone player. This is a bluray movie from 2012. I've had no problems with other newer bluray movies.
Oh, on closer inspection I do find some scratches and there is one on the center of the disc which has probably corrupted the recognition of it .. damn!

I tried applying pledge, but didn't work. Pledge has only ever worked once for me on a bluray disc, but that was on a star trek discovery disc that was having problems, and that's a much newer disc, almost pristine condition.

I thought maybe I could force copy it to an ISO or something and get it to work that way but I can't even get the drive to stop flashing. It just seems to be stuck in "seek" mode or something.

If this is because of some scratches you can try to wash your disc carefully with a soap. After this rip it as fast as possible (but may be you will need to decrypt it).

It could be disc rot, While I was backing up my Blu-ray collection, several discs actually did not play at all, eventhough they are in pristine condition.
