  1. Hi all, new to the forum.
I am 78 years young and old school! Remember the days you actually purchased (or free) actual software to exclusively use on your computer?
That is what I am looking for. No signup, no sign in, no account, no cloud, no posting on youtube, TikTok, etc, etc. Just me working on a video.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Openshot and Shotcut good for beginners, OpenShot the more basic of the two

  3. Windows 11 has a Video editor. It's pretty basic but it would get you started.

Kdenlive at the moment is the best open-source video editor.

It's like a sort of 100% free Premiere (not only the tools are the same, but the workflow is very similar) - that is a very good editing software (but it has that nasty and greedy subscription system that we all despise) - so I always suggest to invest some times to learn Kdenlive, the closest thing to Premiere you can find for free. Plus.. the development of the software is constant and well made (at least one major version per year and three-four minor updates with fixes and improvements)

It may require some time to learn the basics, but there are a lot of tutorial on YT and it's REALLY worth the effort. since, once learned, you will have a powerful and VERY versatile tool at your disposal.

PS: I've always found those basic and "simple" video-editing applications (and all the basic software in general) SO limited in functionality and with workflow SO poorly streamlined and inefficient that even doing basic stuff is often more difficult, unnerving and time-wasting than using a more advanced and sophisticated software instead.

The built-in video editor doesn't work offline. What to do if the Internet is not available?
