  1. Hi all,

    I’m trying to clean up some DV content with FineDehalo and could use advice on finding optimal settings.

    Here’s what I’m starting with:

    FineDehalo(rx=2.1, ry=1.9,
    darkstr=0.5,
    brightstr=0.9,
    thmi=42,
    thma=52,
    thlimi=42,
    thlima=52,
    contra=0.0,
    excl=true,
    edgeproc=0.0,
    showmask=0)
    These settings were converted from an old DeHalo_alpha script, but I’m not sure they’re ideal for DV material.

    Should I adjust the threshold values (thmi, thma, thlimi, thlima) for better halo removal or sensitivity?
    Are contra or edgeproc useful for DV content, or should I leave them at default?
    If anyone has experience using FineDehalo on DV or similar sources, I’d really appreciate your suggestions or example settings!

    Thanks!

  2. You should always adjust the setting per source,... there are no 'optimal' settings for content format xy,...

    Thanks for information.

    I’m working with a large amount of footage that was taken using the same camcorder - not just the same type, but the exact same apparatus.

    Given the uniformity of the material, I’m hoping to find settings that are as close to “optimal” as possible.

    I’m looking for some non-perfect, simple improvement - non-aggressive removal of halos across all the footage, to achieve some balance between effectiveness and practicality.

    The footage was shot with a Panasonic NV-GS80 DV camcorder.

    I’d greatly appreciate any insight, tips, or suggestions.

  4. So, if your content always has the same type of halo, and you are confident that you are fine with one setting, you might want to share an unprocessed snipped of that content if you want folks to give their opinion about the settings. Unless you are expecting only feedback from folks that also use the same setup and also are confident that one setting is a decent solution.
    So my suggestion would be to share a sample (i.e. 10-30 seconds) of the source that shows the halos and general quality of your captures.
