  1. I have about twenty or so internet radio stations that I listen to on my phone. I don't want to use apps or websites to listen to a radio station. I use the direct stream url that is saved in a vlc file (file extension xspf, pls, asx, etc). The result is that I just tap the given vlc file and the radio station starts playing immediately. Recently, the bbc world service radio changed their streaming url so the old one doesn't work any more. There is a website:
    https://garfnet.org.uk/cms/2023/10/29/latest-bbc-hls-radio-streams/
that talks about this and gives some info, but when I put that into vlc 2.2.4, it doesn't play.
I tried using Google Chrome developer tools on the official bbc "listen now" website, but I couldn't find any stream url.
I found a third party website that has a "listen now" to the bbc:
    http://www.my-radios.com/da/radio/live/14997/BBC-World-Service
Then, with same developer tools, I found this:
    http://stream.live.vc.bbcmedia.co.uk/bbc_world_service
When I put that into vlc, it will play the stream perfectly, and while playing, I (on vlc) I choose
    media>save playlist to file
and then I have a tiny vlc xspf file that when clicked will play the bbc immediately. I have attached that file to this post. Note: change file extension from txt to xspf
(xspf file can be played with vlc)
My question is, could one get the official direct url stream from using the official bbc world service radio website (not using third party website)?

  2. try this

    obtained from https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live/bbc_world_service

    Code:
    vlc "https://a.files.bbci.co.uk/ms6/live/3441A116-B12E-4D2F-ACA8-C1984642FA4B/audio/simulcast/dash/nonuk/pc_hd_abr_v2/aks/bbc_world_service.mpd"

The link that provided @Gromyko works fine. on vlc, just select open Media > Open network stream, and paste the link

  5. I am in USA and tried that (pasted link into vlc (media> open network stream>play) and does not play.
I think geoblocked in USA. Not willing to use vpn.
EDIT: I found another third party website that has working bbc world service radio link:
    https://www.liveradio.ie/stations/bbc-world-service
    url:
    https://wsdownload.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/meta/live/shoutcast/mp3/eieuk.pls
When I put that into vlc, it plays and was playing the same program as above link in my first post.
Official bbc world service radio website:
Although above website plays bbc world service radio no problem, as I said in first post, I'm not willing to be required to go to website to access the bbc world service radio.
Here below is the tiny pls file, that when clicked, plays bbc world service stream given in this post. NOTE: change extension (txt) to pls. Cannot upload pls files here. vlc plays pls files.
    Note#2:
It appears, using notepad to look at the text, that the file here attached is basically the same as in my first post. Just the extension here is "pls".

There is no geoblocking in Israel. Try again.
Using VLC, Ctrl-n and paste code given above.
