  1. Years ago I used Pinnacle Studio to capture Video8 and VHS tapes to avi files. I think I did a good job except for one thing.
Before capturing I noticed all the slider controls, i.e. Brightness, Saturation, etc, were default in the middle, except for Sharpness. It was way down low by default. So I moved the slider to the middle value 0.
The videos came out too sharp. I would say there is too much noise in the digital conversions, but not sure if that is the right term.
Should I re-capture or edit the digital files? Does it matter in terms of quality?
I don't want to keep playing the tapes and wearing them or the Camcorder out.
The tapes are from the late 1980s and 1990s.
The captures were done over 10 years ago, so that's another factor with the tapes being even older now.
    I keep putting it off.

Entirely up to you. If you provide a sample or two, we can give you our opinion and perhaps editing suggestions to improve them.

You can do Direct Stream Copy in VDub, around 15 seconds for an AVI snip, and attach it here (max attachment 500mb).
