Hi everyone, what is the best forum sub section to place a new Thread dedicated to Screen Recording Software, or in my case specifically dedicated to the use of Bandicam, which i have a paid for License for.

    Cheers

Sorry but i only found 1 or 2 Threads in that Forum sub section relating to Screen Recording software, and those were 2 or 3 years old.

I think tht sub forum is more dedicated to downloading streaming video content from websites and i don't want to do that.

It also looks like a very congested Forum sub section.

I will try to post a dedicated Thread for the use of Bandicam here in this Newbie/General Discussion Forum sub section.

When in doubt as to location to post in the Video forum you can't go wrong if you use - Newbie / General discussion

    btw)

I have no connection to this free open source software but after finding VokoscreenNG and using it for the past few years I don't know why anyone would pay for another. Not only can you screen cap with various settings but it also works with the cheap capture devices. Also we shouldn't forget PotPlayer that also does both quite well although it is less dedicated to these specific tasks since PotPlayer does so much more it's more complex to find and adjust capture and screen cap settings. OBS does the job too but again not dedicated to this task since it's so full featured there is a learning curve. That's just to name a few freebies.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  5. I use this screen recording software:
    ZD Soft Screen Recorder.
I got this version from sharewareonsale free but no updates.
    It works fine for me.
I have a very old bandicam that I also got for free the same way.
It is on a Vista partition & I need to boot into Vista to use it.
Bandicam worked OK but I have not used it for a long time.

It is easy really, i have never heard of this VokoscreenNG software before, and before i tried Bandicam i had already tested at least 6 others and Bandicam was just far better and offered better features, so i bought a license for 1 year, for me it was cheap, and it got rid of the watermarks and 10 minute recording time, and it unlocked a few of the other features as well.

I am always open to trying alternatives, especially if it is free and offers the same or better features than Bandicam.

Downloading vokoscreenNG now to give it a go, never heard of it until now.
Edit: dam this thing is being a real pain to download from their website.

Edit Edit: i am having so many issues downloading this vokoscreenNG, been trying to grab it for so long, but just as it restarts the download it slows down to a snails pace.

I also use PotPlayer for media playbacks, but i had no idea that it does screen recording.

Try the home page where I get and update mine:

    https://linuxecke.volkoh.de/vokoscreen/vokoscreen.html

Don't let the url fool you it contains both the linux and window versions with instructions

    EDIT:

As far as Potplayer: If you right click in the video window and click on preferences you'll see under device that you can capture screens as well as any connected analog or digital devices. This is a much more than a player. I just find a more dedicated app like VokoscreenNG more direct to set and use for this purpose

Ok so i spent an hour testing vokoscreenNG and i have to say that it really doesn't compare to Bandicam, and i set it up to record as close as i could to my Bandicam settings, but when you set a recording area it indicates the WxH resolution as you drag it over the recording area, but after i stopped the recording, MediaInfo gave me a higher frame resolution than what vokoscreenNG indicated.

Also, it requires you to input a CRF factor number like Handbrake does to record at, so i set my CRF level to 15 for AVC which is what i use in Handbrake, and i got a video bitrate only half what Bandicam gave me, and the file was not as good as the same recording done with Bandicam.

It all comes down to personal choice as well as what you really need or expect the software to do, for me paying $30 per year for Bandicam is worth it over all the other recorders i have tried.

I can't compare your results since I don't use Bandicam. I can only tell you how I use VokoscreenNG. I always capture 1080p full screen by elevating the screen I want to FS then use a shortcut key which in my case I use ctl Z to start or stop the cap unless I set the timers. I also tick the box that says "minimize when recording starts". I always capture to MKV and H.264 since I read it produces the clearest video and depending on the source 30 or 60 fps. The quality slider again depends on source material but can range from 7 or even less to as poor as 35 if I only want a copy to keep file size down. The video is captured as a variable bitrate file.

There are no doubt some variables that are preset and aren't exposed in the GUI but I haven't explored further to see if they can be edited in the command line. The results meet all my needs and this is the best free one I've found so far. Of course not everyone will agree. I'm willing to try something better if it's free but I see no compelling reason to pay for it unless it's a voluntary donation with no usage, time or timestamp restrictions to force a payment.

Hi there, everyone has different needs for screen capture software, so there is no real or valid point in making side by side comparisons because of that, in your case i note that your needs are completely different than mine, where i only record a set area of my screen at any given time, but i want the best possible array of features and quality from my recordings, and Bandicam has been the only one to offer me what i need without being too complex to use, and Bandicam has a fairy decent set of inbuilt presets to choose from, and i can tweak them to suite my needs.

I already set my record profile and Bandicam retains that profile even if i close it, so when i open it again, the profile is already loaded, i just need to reset my recording area from the presets list, or create my own custom size.

After i record my files in MP4 h264 AVC @ 60p i put them into my VRD Pro software and i recode them to the same resolution but in HEVC (h265) format using the Intelligent Recode feature in VRD so that i get a smaller file but the same quality as the original.

As far as Free vs Paid for screen recording software goes, Bandicam obviously feels that their software is worthy of charging a fee to use it without limitations, and i personally have no issues with that because it is a better recorder with better features than a lot of others out there, so i am happy to pay the $33 that they sell it for, but as i mentioned before, the free so called fully featured ones that i have tried do not offer some of the features that i need or want for my own personal use.

It's all personal choice, as long as what you are using does what you need it to do, then that is all that matters, and on that note, there still might be other recording software out there that i have not used, and may well do exactly what Bandicam can do, but i like Bandicam, it does what i need, so there is no point in me looking for something else.

    Cheers
