  1. Hi folks,

first post.... I have an old AVI (MPG) that should have audio.... VirtualDub says there is Audio... DivFix++ says there are errors it cannot fix.

    I would REALLY like a fix for this as it is a video of my daughter's very first singing concert (5 yo). I am wondering about a couple of things;

Are there actual errors in the file and if so how do I repair them.... the video is grainy but fine.. it's just the audio

    or
Is it a matter of the PC trying to play an AVI file when it is an old mpg file?

Obviously, I'm not the expert. But maybe someone here is.

    Many thanks

    Peter

  4. Try clever ffmpeg-GUI.
Load your avi, click main page, click multiplex, select avi as container and click multiplex. Done.
This does a simple remux. Maybe this could help.

  5. If what Prowo suggested does not fix the Audio Clever can do a more complex encode of the Audio.
I will leave the instructions for that with ProWo.

These are the first instructions above.
If those do not work then more complex instructions can be given.

I have used Clever but ProWo is the author of Clever & can give better instructions.

This forum allows up to 477MB upload of an .AVI .
If the simple remux fails you could post all or part of the .AVI.

  10. I downloaded the .avi file.
I tried several programs & finally Audacity.
As far as I could tell the audio is silent.
It is like it was recorded with the mic volume all they way down.
Audacity just shows a narrow flat line.

I did the same, same result. The audio is PCM 44100Hz 32bit floating
I then applied 50% amplification and nothing but hiss

  13. Agreed.... I believe it is either a corrupted file or the codec..... DivFix says errors.... so I was hoping to fix the error - if that is the issue.

My Vegas editor identifies it as a Sony motion JPEG file, also known as M-JPEG.

At 44100 sample rate and 16 bits this digital audio is uncompressed CD specification which is very good.

I also auditioned the audio. At about -62db the audible noise is much noisier than any low level "dither" you might expect on playback of that sort of digital audio file. It sounds like a good, error free digital audio recording of a stereo amplifier but with no input signal. Each channel has very similar noise but is not identical, as if from a stereo amplifier.

Maybe there was audio on an original recording but this is a copy where for whatever reason the audio was not transferred over.

If it was a corrupted digital audio file I'm not sure we'd hear that smooth analog sounding noise at that level and seemingly from beginning to end of the file.

Do you still have the original camera and recorded media?
