I am trying to get a portable rechargeable item to use as a monitor for my Canon Vixia HF200 to use camping. The camera has an HDMI output so I can use my home tv as a monitor by plugging into one of the HDMI ports and selecting that input. I've found a rechargeable item with an HDMI port and also a USB so hopefully I could watch mp4 videos from a thumb drive with it also. I've contacted several sellers but none of them know if it would work as a monitor. Can any of you knowledgeable people tell me whether I could use this item as I use my home tv for a monitor:

What do you mean to work as a monitor? It should show you a picture as long as your videos are in the correct system PAL or NTSC and this portable TV has the option to select the correct TV system.
The rechargeable battery size is not mentioned and the time it lasts can be quite short, so you should be able to power it on somehow while you are on a trip.
I have an old 7" Not-ONLY-TV gadget (Discontinued) and it has a rechargeable battery and also can show terrestrial local TV but only DVB-T and NOT DVB-T2. If in your location (USA?) you also have terrestrial TV then it might be a good idea to choose a gadget that supports this. You will need a simple antenna of course.
You might find better models on AliExpress. After all your eBay gadget is also made in China so maybe you can find a better deal there.
Edit: Maximum Resolution 1200 x 800
Is this good enough for you? I would look for a better resolution than this.Last edited by Subtitles; 1st Mar 2025 at 09:53.

Portable, as in taking it outside? How are you going to shade it? Because you absolutely will need to.

I do not know if this will work as a monitor for your Canon Vixia HF200 directly.
It should from the HDMI.
If not the camera can use SDHC cards. If it will not work with HDMI maybe an adapter that will take the SDHC card to USB will.
It also states 3 hours battery life & I have found this is usually optimistic for battery life.
So you will need a way to charge it.
If close to a vehicle with a lighter socket then that will charge it.
If not they make small solar panels for this.
Also an external battery device can recharge it. Maybe a couple of times.
I believe the portable car jumper I have can do this.
The resolution is lower than your camera's but if it is acceptable to you then it should be good.
After all it is only a 15" screen.
@ Subtitles It has a digital tuner & comes with an antenna.
So it should be able to receive TV signals that are in range. -
If you don't need the TV functionality, there's a lot of portable monitors on Amazon at a lower price and lots of Q&A and reviews.
