Converting NTSC Movie on DVD To PAL

Hi, the wife accidently purchased a NTSC DVD movie instead of PAL & I'm wondering if it's actually worth converting to PAL.
What software would I use & what would it do to the aspect ratio?
Would it look totally wrong or is there software that will make it look like a PAL movie?

In PAL countries, many DVD players can play NTSC.

Otherwise, for conversion to 25i, you can try in Avisynth something like

<your source filter here>
ConvertToYV12(interlaced=true)
AssumeTFF()
tdeint(mode=1) #bobbing before vertical resizing, skip if source is progressive
Spline36Resize(720,576)
ChangeFPS(50)    #or ConvertFPS(50) to reduce judder/jerkyness

Hi. My DVD can play NTSC but I was hoping to watch it in PAL format.
The DVD movie has a display aspect ration of 2.39.1 or is that format used it all widescreen movies?

2.39:1 is the movie aspect ratio. DVD display aspect ratios are 16:9 or 4:3. Nothing else. Therefore the movie has added black borders to make it fit onto the 16:9 or 4:3 DVD canvas. Applies for NTSC and PAL.

You can rip the DVD, crop the black borders off, scale and reencode it and play the file using your SW player or TV player - or much simpler purchase the PAL DVD edition, but the 2.39:1 movie will still play with top and bottom black borders on your 16:9 TV screen.
