Sorry for posting in this section, I didn't find a section dedicated to VCRs. If there is a better section, admin or mod please put it in the right place.
My problem is that I am only getting image from a Panasonic NV-HS900 VCR with cassettes recorded in SVHS via S-Video cable. I am using a Yamaha RX-V2067 AV receiver connected to the VCR via S-Video cable and analog audio (RCA). TV are connected to AV receiver via HDMI cable. AV receiver is able to convert video, is not just passing through. Sound is working, but image only works if I am playing a cassette recorded in SVHS. And only on PLAY mode. If I try to fast play or fast rewind on the heads (JOG and SHUTTLE) or PAUSE, image is also not working. On standard VHS image is only working for a brief period, then screen goes blank. On SVHS is clear and runs smoothly. Anyone has any idea why is this happening and how to fix it? Thanks.

I'm sharing my response that I posted in your Tapeheads thread:

It's either the analog to digital converter inside your receiver not locking to the video due to frame sync issues, S-VHS recordings are usually of a better quality so the timing signals are good, not so much in trickle play and regular VHS, Or it could also be your VCR is not tracking VHS tapes properly, I would find a way to connect directly to a composite monitor to troublshoot further.
And so far you have confirmed that a direct connection to TV works, just via AVR doesn't work, This leads me to believe it's your AVR, Note that some AVRs built in HDCP can be triggered with poor video signal, You may want to try one of those famous HDMI splitters that strip HDCP.
