  1. I can only find the verbatim dvd+ R discs in the Life Time Series. Verbatim says its an affordable way to save your movies. Are these quality discs or do you recommend a better brand?

  2. ImgBurn finalizes all DVDs as far as I know.
There is no setting in Imgburn not to finalize a DVD.
The software tells the burner to finalize or not.

I can't tell you about new Verbatim DVDs .
    I hope someone else can.
I bought several 100 DVD cakeboxes way back.
The dye in them is known to be good.
I doubt I will ever need to buy anymore SL DVD blanks.
I usually compress to SL size & burn to these.
The quality is good enough for me.
That is why I have not ordered any DL because I have rarely used them.
I have burned to DL in the past but there wasn't that much difference.
Get some with AZO dye if you can.

These say they are AZO :

No! Don't get any without AZO. Verbatim's "Life Series" (non-ASO) is crap.

While you're waiting for your SL disks, @Zipsick, you can try a DL. In your image in post #85 that shows the layer break info, click on the line with the gold star depicting the layer break in the table (there's only one).

The OK button will become alive and you can click it to proceed with the burn.

    Imgburn will finalise the disk.

BTW, untick "Test" and tick "Verify". Imgburn will then check the DVD for correct burning.

  5. Thanks. Those are the ones I was looking for. Thanks for verifying that for me! Ordered them. Wont be here until Wed. Might have to wait until then to burn that movie I want to experiment burning for the first time. I will try and download some other movies and maybe I will find one big enough to fit on one of my DL discs. If you do find out any info on my error messages on IMGBurn let me know I am real interested in anything you find out about what’s going on with it. Thanks so much for all your help. How did you learn all this stuff anyways???? Have a Great weekend!

  6. @Alwyn Will clicking on the gold star line turn on the OK button with ImGburn in test mode ?
The reason I had zipsick using test mode was to prevent an accidental or bad burn.
I should use Verify more but I seldom get a bad burn.

I asked on the ImgBurn forum to see if I could get some more information but Alwyn had the answer.

I would not worry about Test mode. I've never used it and Imgburn has never failed me.

@Zipsick, you've never had any error messages from Imgburn. All you're getting is prompts or halts because you haven't made the right selections.

    So:

    Untick Test
    Tick Verify
In the Layer Break box, click the line with the gold star
    Click OK.
With Verify ticked, the disk drawer will open then close again as the disk is being checked after being burnt.

I've never ticked Seamless and I'm unsure what it does; I suppose it smooths out the layer change.

  8. I tried another DVD with a larger file size so I could use my DL discs. First time I downloaded it I did not get matching sized downloads. I tried again. The second time the downloaded iso file sizes matched exactly. I thought I was off to a good start. Then something weird happened. I hope someone can explain this to me. I went to select my file in ImgBurn but when I went to my Folder The File was just not there. I went to look for in directly through File Explorer and it shows up there. So can someone explain why it will not show up in the select file search through ImgBurn But it truly is there in File explorer. Please see attached screenshots.

I see you're ripping your DVDs to your C drive. I wonder if that is causing some of the issues.

Try moving that latest good ISO onto another internal drive, if you have one, then see if Imgburn will pick it up.

From the ImgBurn forum member dbminter
Some older players won't play the DVD properly at the layer break without a pause. The only reason you might want to not select seamless layer break is if you've tried it and an older player doesn't play the disc properly trying to switch at the layer break.

It doesn't really matter where the layer break goes unless you don't have seamless layer breaks. Because depending on where the layer break goes, if it's not seamless, you'll get a pause in the playback. And if there's dialogue there, the audio will pause.

  11. @ zipsick,
Try Alwyn's settings post #97. I would add "Seamless" checked.
Unless your DVD player is real old.

You might try double clicking on the .iso in File Explorer it has ImgBurn Open with Icon beside it.
If this does not work then reboot & try again.

I borrowed a commercial PIRATES_OF_THE_CARRIBEAN:The Curse of the Black Pearl from a friend for testing purposes.
MakeMKV ripped it correctly to an .ISO.
The size of the disc & the .ISO are 7.51GB.
When opened with VLC it has the same menu I posted in #71.
Disc 2 has the same menu you posted in #69.

  12. I copied and pasted the iso to my external backup d drive. But ImgBurn Still does not recognize it. Have you ever seen this before? I have not. I can try another movie but this movie is one I really want to copy. I borrowed it from a friend and she wont let it go for any amount of money or trade. Any other ideas? I already tried downloading it twice. I can try downloading it to another folder. I think I will try that while I wait for any mor ideas. Thanks Images show's iso in my backup drive but not being detected by ImgBurn

  13. When downloading I get a lot of these: Title #1 was added (14 cell(s), 1:33:38)

    Title #11 was added (2 cell(s), 0:03:05)
    Title #12 was added (2 cell(s), 0:02:55)
Title #13 has length of 101 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped
Title #14 has length of 38 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped

Title #17 has length of 14 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped

Saving 4 titles into directory D:/
Does this mean I will be missing a lot of Title information?

  14. I don't know what else to try with this DVD. I tried again downloading it to my other external drive and ImgBurn Still does not recognize it. What could be wrong with it? Any ideas please??? Are there any other free burn programs I could try? Thanks!

  15. Turn off Windows Explorer's "Hide Extensions For Known File Types" option. From any Explorer window select View -> Options -> View (tab) -> Advanced Settings -> Hide Extensions For Known File Types. See if that makes any difference. At least you'll be able to see the real extensions.

Nothing wrong with Imgburn. If you're concerned about titles less than 120 seconds being dropped when the disk is ripped,
you can set the seconds to 0 (so nothing will be dropped) in the preferences\video tab

  18. @ zipsick,
I got The Secrets of Roan Inish DVD.
I do not know if this will help but the rip with MakeMKV fnished without errors.
It did use the LibreDrive mode.MakeMKV selected to use this automatically.
I know your drive did not have this or partially had it.
I can try with my external optical drive that connects via USB to my PC.
    If it will help you.
I do NOT expexct different results.
It is a half-height drive not a slim drive.
    This is the MakeMKV log:
    Code:

You are running a 32-bit (x86) version of a program.
    Using LibreDrive mode (v06.3 id=BF04C03F631B)
Backing up disc into folder "H:/VIDEO/backup/backup/SECRETOFROANINISHLB.iso"
    Backup done
This is the ImgBurn log of the Write(Burn) to a DVD+RW SL with a max speed of 2.4x.
This is the only speed my drive will burn this DVD or I would have set it to 1x.
Since this rip was small enough to fit on a SL I did not need to select a layer break.

  21. Well I tried a test mode on a good Iso using ImgBurn. I got a message saying tray open and Disc not empty. I checked properties on disc. attachment shows properties. I don't understand all the copies files but got one of them to open the movie and it played using KMPlayer 64X. I attached a copy of the choices KMPlayer gave me to choose to pick for which file to open to play the DVD. Which file plays the dvd. I kept trying them until I got lucky. I need to know for the next time. I did this in test mode so don't know how this made a playable dvd. Can you explain this to me? Do I have to do it again not in the test mode?
Thanks for getting the DVD and test ripping it for me with all the info. I really appreciate it! how did you find it? It is not easy to find.

I'm surprised the "ISLAND_AT_THE_T0P_0F_THE_W0RLD.iso3" would even load.
.iso.3 should not be an extension. It should be .iso only.
I suspect it is the third .iso MakeMKV created.
It should have been something like this: "ISLAND_AT_THE_T0P_0F_THE_W0RLD(03).ISO

If the DVD plays it is OK.
Will this DVD play on a settop player ?

ImgBurn is NOT supposed to Write to a disc when in Test Mode.
I did not know that it would ever do that.

I borrowed a copy of the movie from a friend that had it.
I will only use it for testing purposes & not keep a copy.
Even this is barely borderline fair use & I want to keep anything I post legal.

  24. So you know. Before I test Ran the burn I dropped the “3” after name on the ISO.

  25. i burned a copy of a new of a dvd in test mode today of a new backup made from Makemkv. The same thing happened. I ran it in Test mode and clicked the gold icon and the seamless icon (i read maybe this may be a problem for some players. Should I not use it next time? Please advise on this.) then kit ok. When the test was done the disk ejected from the burner. I tried it in our DVD player and its working fine. Should it have written in Test Mode? Next time I want to write a DVD should I skip the Test mode and just write it in regular write mode? What should actually happen in Test mode?
    Quote Quote
  26. For some reason ImgBurn or your OS is not honoring the Test mode.
So I do not believe checked or unchecked will make any difference.
ImgBurn is not supposed to Write anything to a disc with Test mode checked.

If you read my post #100 the quote from the ImgBurn forum.
It says "older players". It doesn't say how old but I suspect several years old.
    So set ImgBurn to Seamless.

  27. Ok, Got it.
I downloaded another DVD with makemkv. It finished downloading. I got these messages attached. The Iso is the exact same size as the original DVD but it won't play on either VLC or KMPLayer 64X. Is there a way to fix the download to get a proper ISO? Thanks for any info on this.

  28. Searching these errors there are a couple of causes.
One is that MakeMKV can not decrypt this DVD.

The other suggest a dirty or badly scratched DVD.

So take a look at the DVD to see if it is scratched.
Give it a good cleaning with a microcloth using the outward wagon wheel type stroke.
Then try to back it up again.
    Quote Quote
  29. I checked the DVD. It has some minor scratches only and just a few and was not dirty at all. I cleaned it and tried again with the same Messages. Thanks for the ideas though!
    Quote Quote
  30. I believe you will find that MakeMKV does not have the codes to decrypt all DVDs.
The "Calculated BUP offset for VTS #4 does not match one in IFO header".
Is copy protection that is not being removed.
