Strange handbrake rencoding issue

I'm re-encoding my star trek collection but as i playback, i have various popups come up on the screen with definitions of various words. What's causing this?

Did you rip the DVD to your Hard disk (or SSD) ?

I ripped to my pc drive which is an ssd

Somehow it's picking up some extra features from the DVD. You may have picked the wrong title.

I've seen something like this before in other films. I think it's some special subtitle that (hopefully) can be deactivated, unless you chose "burn in" in the handbrake options.
