  1. I acquired this VCR recently because of the s-video output, as I was hoping to see improved results for my VHS captures. However, the VCR seems to have pronounced sharpness, which is affecting the quality of my footage. Does anyone know if this model VCR has a hidden service menu, or is it limited to a simple diagnostic mode?

The PV-V series is known for that, unfortunately. See: old posts by orsetto, sanlyn, Puzzler (off the top of my head).

I'm not aware of any fix.
My YouTube channel with little clips: vhs-decode, comparing TBC, etc.

  4. After extensive viewings and research, I can confirm that the VCR in question does NOT implement automatic edge enhancement. I viewed a VHS that does not exhibit any sharpening, and even looks soft, but another (from the same studio) that does feature extensive edge enhancement. It seems like it's entirely dependent on the tape in question.
