I'm new to all this so please bear with me. I am using tsMuxer to convert an MKV file into a blu-ray folder. It seems to go just fine. I then convert it to an ISO with Imgburn (I realize I can create an ISO with tsMuxer). I mount the the ISO and then watch the video in VLC. All works fine. I then go to burn the ISO on a blu-ray rewritable disc as a test. Here is the problem, the disc won't play in a stand-only blu-ray player. At first I thought it was because the video was UHD so I tried to reduce it to 1080p with Handbrake but the disc still won't play. What am I doing wrong here? TIA

You need a Blu-ray authoring program.
See here: https://www.videohelp.com/software/sections/authoring-bd-hd-dvd
edit:
Retry to create the ISO with tsMuxer.
Then follow this instructions.

Thanks for the response. I feel like I have basically done this already. The only thing I didn't do was select the BDMV and certificate folders separately. I just selected the root folder that had both of them in it. Like I said above, it creates the disc fine it just doesn't play in a blu-ray player (Sony brand if it matters).

Here is the mkv file.

Here is the stream file after tsmuxer has done its thing. FYI, I did add a subtitle file to tsmuxer.

LOL, it's HEVC video and UHD hence no way that a standalone Blu ray player will handle it.

Well I used vidcoder. The only thing I changed was the framerate to 'same as source' instead of 30 and all the audio files to 'passthrough'. File plays in VLC but tsmuxer won't work with it. Resolution shows something weird like 1920x804. Here is what I got
This is the error when I first open the file in tsmuxer. Not exactly sure which track it is complaining about

This is what I get when I try to process the file

Media info for the resulting .MP4 file

What settings should I be using in vidcoder to make this work? -
You need to set the resolution at 1920 x 1080 and use blacker borders on the bottom and top since the res you stated need to be filled out.Sounds like your video was encoded to variable framerate, set it to 23.976 for encoding to mkv.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -

The op did not set the proper dimension cause it cuts out the black borders that are need for 1920x1080.

Ok. I finally was able to make this blu-ray. It seems the main issue was not cropping the boarders. Cropping them gave the output of 1920x804 (noted above) which looked fine in VLC but was a no go on the blu-ray player. TSmuxer never did like the subtitle file in the encoded .mkv file and kept deleting it. I had to add the subtitle file separately. Some observations after experimenting in VidCoder:
1. Changing the sizing mode to 'manual' made the output the correct (1920x1080) but the picture looked elongated. And the player wouldn't play it.
2. I mentioned above that the files that failed still played fine in VLC. Well what I discovered was that if I navigated to the stream that would play, but when I created an ISO and tried to play the disc, VLC would crash.
I tried to recreate the FPS error of '90000' like mentioned above by choosing MP4 as a container and H.265 codec and 'same as source' VFR because that is what I thought I used originally but it didn't create the 90000 fps again so I don't know how that happened. Doing an mkv encode in actual Handbrake (not VidCoder) with the subtitles still made Tsmuxer complain but the subtitle stream still showed up in the list. Go figure. Anyway, thanks for all the help.
EDIT: Spoke too soon. The movie froze part way through. Something else I noticed is that it won't fast forward.Last edited by Bird333; 15th Feb 2025 at 21:13.

Bird333 have in mind that you can play anything on PC, and it's not definitive test for a BR disc. You need to select a preset which particularly follows BR specification. Not only video dimension and codec are important but other parameters like bluray compatibility (bluray_compat), length of the GOP, bitrate, buffer size, etc.
-
I don't see those options. Any even if I did, I wouldn't know what to select. BTW, I did another encode and got the 90000 fps again. The settings that cause this seem to be 'MKV', 'variable frame rate' & 'same as source'. There is something going on in the creation of the disc itself that is causing the problem. Even navigating to the stream itself from the mounted iso plays fine, but 'opening a disc' in VLC causes the 'no fast forward' behavior (the movie just starts over from the beginning when I try). I realize the real test is playing it on a standalone player but I'm just using VLC as a first step because it's quicker to make an ISO before I actually burn it to disc.

@bird333: Your source looks like downloaded crap but anyway here the x264 settings for blu-ray compatible encoding. If your GUIs do something else your SONY player won't play the disc properly.
And once you have the x264 videostream encoded properly you can mux it with audio and subs using tsMuxeR for example to produce the folders or the .iso.

Or use BDRebuilder upfront which will automate the process. -
Op has already been given the proper settings for blu-ray but isn't listening or using them.

I'm not sure what you mean. I have used the settings here (at least the ones I could find in HB/Vidcoder). Everything seems to work fine until I actually try to watch the BD itself then I get weird behavior (i.e. can't fast forward and the movie will freeze). I am currently encoding yet again with HB adding the 'encoder tune' setting of 'film' and the 'encoder level' of '4.1' based on the commands provided by 'Sharc'. I don't know if they are the same in HB but they looked close enough so I am trying them. The rest of that stuff I didn't see anything that matched it. The current encode has the following:
Starting with the 'Fast 1080p' profile
1.Summary tab- Format set to 'MKV'.
2.Dimension tab- Cropping set to 'none' (because this gives the 1920x1080 resolution). Everything else left alone
3.Video tab- Video encoder set to H.264 (x264). Frame rate set to 23.976 (constant). Encoder tune set to 'Film'. Encoder level set to 4.1. Everything
else left alone.
4.Audio tab- Selected 8 English audio tracks. All are either AC3 passthrough or DTS-HD passthrough depending on source. I used passthrough because I assume that means it won't change anything in the audio. If this is not correct, tell me what to change them to. My thinking was to change as little as possible.
I didn't add the English subtitles because I usually end up having to add them in tsmuxer anyway. Plus that is one less thing to worry about with the finished mkv file. So I am trying to follow what you guys are saying here but again I am new to all this. -
Well just created another ISO and it has the same behavior. So 'encoder tune' and 'encoder level' didn't help. Is HB not capable of creating the proper file here?

Authoring Works 7 has a free trial version for creating Blu-ray discs. Shutter Encoder(Free) can convert MKV to H.264 without losing video quality. Authoring Works 7 will re-encode the video for Blu-ray. However, there should not be any noticeable quality loss.
