I have a JVC HR-3900U that has very few hours on it and it works great except for one fairly major problem. Occasionally when I stop a tape during playback and then after a little while press play again, the tape will wind multiple times around the drum and crinkle the tape. I then have to carefully remove the tape by hand from the deck. I don't have any issues with rewind or fast-forward, and if I just play the tape straight through without stops, everything works just fine. It's just when I play, hit stop, and then hit play again.
Any idea what might cause this? I've already thoroughly cleaned the tape path, including the pinch roller, and mechanically everything looks good. Heads are also sparkling clean.
