Hi guys,, I am going to replace//upgrade my D620 CPU currently an (Intel CPU T2400, 1.83 GHz x 2), to a T7600 CPU.
Seen one on Ebay, asked Chinese seller if it would work in a DELL D620 laptop he has requested two questions be answered.
(1)What processor was your original configuration?
Does this mean the hardware spec from system info as listed above, ,plus basic system info?
(2) What is your motherboard's northbridge chip?
I do not know what this means, or where to find it? Any help here welcomed.
The original D620 O/S is a win 7 home, 32 bit, but this O/S is no longer booting (recently) ,after the Dell logo screen a series of beeps, but no boot. I am currently using Linux Mint 16 to access the System info details. If you have any experience with this model, upgrading the CPU, any help welcomed. Cheers.
All the best

you should be able to find this info. Use HWinfo, see the motherboard section/chipset

I have one of those still too, but not in use.
But what problem exactly you are trying to fix now?
The non booting OS?
Best upgrade would be to put in a SSD, that will have more impact then using a higher CPU and much easier to do.
Also you can find with a bit google:

Thanks both, Davexnet, for a nice bit of kit that could be very useful at the present, and future. Have decided not to go with the T7600 CPU, or the T7400, or indeed the ( T7200 ) after a lot of research. A bit of a nightmare researching these CPUs. The original T2400 in the D620 is a 32 bit architecture CPU and so is all the rest of the Hardware connected to it (Northbridge Chipset) It may well be possible to upgrade this model but I am not going to experiment with it. The-Domain thanks for assisting me in thinking in a different direction that produced a lot of useful ideas and solid data. I have fixed the issue, I am going to buy another laptop, 64bit with a bit of tech future proofing, and install Linux Mint 19 onto the D620. I have a new 250GB SSD, It may help booting a new install of win7, thanks for the advice, sound reasoning but the 32 bit system limitations with windows O/S, is too time consuming to experiment with on this retro machine that works really well with Linux. Was worth having a look at the options. Thank you both for your advice and links, appreciated.
