I have been using PP2 on Windows 7 for what seems like forever, but there comes a time when hardware becomes obsolete and needs to be replaced. I am looking to move all of my programs over to a Windows 10 Pro PC including Premiere Pro 2.

As a feasability test, I installed PP2 on a recent Dell 3620 Win 10 desktop PC but found it will not run. I tried the compatability route back to Win 7 and XP but had no luck. I can get to the screen shown in the attached picture but PP2 shuts down after about 2 seconds.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this? I could turn one of my recent Dell desktop machines into a dual boot one (10 and 7) but that requires a lot of effort and swearing to make it reliable. I still have a old Laptop running Win 7 and PP2 runs fine but rather slowly.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi, I have the same version and it is working on my windows 10 Home 22H2.

I had to set the compatibility mode to XP SP2.

I hope you will be able to use it on your Windows 10 pro

I originally had it installed in a Dell 755, then a 7010, then a 9020 and I hope I can get it to run on a 3620. I still have a working copy on a Windows 7 Dell Laptop but that is old and not very cooperative. I still have my install disc and Key number.

Interestingly I still have the original 320GB HDD from the Dell 755 and as an experiment, I had the drive in a docking station connected to my Dell 3620 PC so I double-clicked on the PP2 Exe file and PP2 came to life with no error messages. If it still does it consistently, I may install the drive in the 3620 case and connect it with a PCIe SATA adapter card which will accommodate 4 SATA drives. I'll try again tomorrow or in a few days anyway.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I don't know whether it's related but I use Photoshop CS2. I installed it OK in 2023 on a Win 11 machine, which still runs happily. This month, I tried installing it on my laptop and it got to a similar screen as yours and froze. Googling pointed to the licence server for PS CS2 being shutdown, so it couldn't check itself for the one/first time after the initial install. No more CS 2 installs for me.

Do you still have the key and did you have to enter it when you installed CS2 it on your laptop?

Yes and yes. When I run it, it hangs on the "initialising" stage. I have to kill it with Task Manager. I've tried various compatibility modes.

Try this, clone your Win 11 OP sys drive to an extermal HDD then put the HDD in a docking station.

Using File Manager (Explorer) double click on the PP2 exe file in the external HDD and see what happens. It opens fine for me, so far anyway.

    Good luck.

@MBC320, FYI, I reinstalled Windows 11 (23H2) and my problem went away, so it wasn't related to the licence server. Thanks for your suggestion though.
