Hello,
Maybe that's a beginner question, but does VirtualDub deinterlace every capture by default?
When checking the "Video > Capture filter..." settings, it looks like I have to choose one deinterlacing method, and by default it is "WEAVE".
Or is WEAVE just the most basic settings, blending two interlaced images into one so it can be output as a frame?
And in a later step, the deinterlacing (QTGMC) is making one real frame without lines?

Weave is correct. It "weaves" the pairs of of video fields into an interlaced frame of even (field1) and odd (field2) lines. When you watch a frame of your "woven" capture you can see the combing in motion scenes as the 2 fields are not taken from the same instant of time.
And no, Vdub does not deinterlace by default.
It is not recommended to deinterlace on-the-fly during capture but rather do it in post, because one can use higher quality deinterlacers in post processing.
SW players (VLC, MPC-HC ...) usually have settings for playing the video as interlaced (=woven) frames or to deinterlace it on-the-fly during playback. Quality of these internal deinterlacers varies, same for deinterlacers of TVs.Last edited by Sharc; 15th Jan 2025 at 02:56.
