Hi there, i was curious to find out if there are any simple to use Title Creation tools out there, one that can create simple text based Titles and/or end Credits for my 4k/60p HEVC camera files, and Smart Render back to Same as Source file.

I use either VRD Pro or LosslessCut to cut my files and Smart Render them back to original format (Same as Source) and retain those as my master or archive copy, and in some cases i need to add a Title, sometimes a credit to the end as well.

I have always used VRD Pro to do this work for me, however, up until the passing of Dan Rosen in 2022, VRD had not developed support for text or graphical based Titles to be added to 4k HEVC files and Smart Render them, this only works with my 4k/60p AVC files.

I can however use VRD to add a Title and/or Credit and have it export to 4k/60p HEVC BUT only if i do a Force Recode to 4k/60p HEVC at a Bitrate the same or close to the Source File, and for me this is not really acceptable because it takes at least 10 times the duration to recode than what the video file duration is, and if i am going to add a Title/Credit etc and have to recode it, i would rather use the x265 encoder rather than Mainconcept that is used by VRD (i may be nit picking here) but that is my preference.

I could do it a lot faster in VRD by using QSV or NVEnc as i have both Graphics in my Laptop, but i always prefer to use software encoding whenever possible.

VRD uses a frame based Text or Graphical based Titles editor, rather than do it by overlaying the Titles onto the actual video frames at the start and/or end (which i don't like doing) so when i create a title and make it 7 seconds duration, the actual Title will result in 420 title or graphical frames being added to the start of my 60fps video file.

Some software such as TMPGEnc Smart Renderer 6 will do titles, but they are overlaid onto the video frames, and TMPGEnc paid for software, i just prefer a free one instead.

Any recommendations (if any) would be appreciated, as i don't think i have seen anything such as this kind of tool so far.

EDIT: Maybe there is a way to convert my 4k/60p HEVC files to another lossless format that VRD does support so i can add titles/credits to, then convert back to the same as they were before.

How about just adding titles video and append main video in mkvtoolnix? Open titles video, append main video. Start multiplex. But it is only theory, could have some issues. I believe NLE software could have this sort of editors, those programs are made for this.

What’s wrong with a standalone titler such as New Blue?

Sorry but i have never heard of this before, i did a google search and found this link, but i have no idea where to go from here, this looks rather serious and complex to me.

Maybe you can explain things more.

    Cheers

  6. I can suggest this method for adding title and credits to a source clip, without encoding the source clip:

    - create a Kdenlive project with the same resolution and fps as the source clip
    - create a 5 second clip with black background and the title
    - export the title clip to a lossless intermediate file
    - encode the lossless intermediate file with Handbrake, using the same specifications as the source clip
    - if adding credits, repeat above steps for creating a credits clip
    - merge the title clip, the source clip, and the credits clip, with LosslessCut

Thanks guys, last night i did work out a very simple way to do it using LosslessCut and VRD Pro, but i can only do it this way while ever i still have use of VRD Pro to create the titles and Smart Render (Match Source) back to original.

The full process, along with 2 demo videos can be found in my other Thread "Alternatives for VRD" in the following link.

@ codemaster, i will try to give your method a go today if i get time, i have a bunch of other tests that i need to do first, however my tolerence with Kdenlive is pretty much shot after the last time i tried to use it.
