Hi. I'm having an issue with a bluray of a live music show that I recently purchased. It seems the manufacturer did something to the encoding so that only stand alone bluray players can only play the disc (which I had to test with a friend that still have a standalone bluray player) . I tried it in my computer and the disc data can't even be found (not even with DVDFab except in clone mode only) so I can't even play it with VLC or PowerDVD. The seller (one of the musicians) did told me that the disc won't play in gaming machines. However, since I don't have a standalone bluray player anymore, I was wondering if the's something that could be done in order recover the data on the disc and reconvert it into an workable (and playable) ISO file ?

    Thanks if you can help

Tried that. But like I said earlier, data doesn't show anywhere and on any software (Dvdfab, Make MKV, etc).

However, MakeMKV did show this when I put the disc :

    MakeMKV v1.17.8 win(x64-release) started
udf: UDF mount: reading in reserve VDS extent
udf: UDF mount: disc not properly formatted(bad VDS)

I would suggest holding down the shift key while loading the disc, to avoid any mounting/loading autoruns. The disc should at least then be visible.
Then, try ISOBuster (to get full use, you'll need to pay, but to check it should still show you something in free mode), extract the pertinent contents from there. This app can often read malformed or incomplete discs.

  5. If your optical drive isn't recognizing it at all, it could be that it needs new firmware to get past higher levels of DRM. Mine was from 2019, and couldn't load or recognize discs with higher versions of AACS (usually UHDs). After flashing with new firmware, the only issues I've had are with outright scratched discs.

Be careful with flashing though, you can irrevocably destroy a drive if done wrong.

This post refers specifically to UHDs, but it's a generally great resource for updating your firmware.

This disc isn't a video disc, its a data disc.

You need udf driver to be able to read the disc.

I don't use Windows so can't help any further but this might get you in a direction

Hi. Thanks ISOBuster worked (for checking the files). To extract them, I need the full version, though. Do you know if there are any free/open source alternatives that'll work ?

Nope, not ones that do that good of a job. I hear CDRoller is close, though, but I haven't used it more than once, since I am happy with my paid copy of ISOBuster.
