    Greets,

For years I used Total Sound Recorder (SE) to record, Acoustica MP3 Editor to mix tracks (if individual tracks were recorded) and Nero Wave Editor (WaveEdit) to piece them together on a Windows XP desktop. I made 5 live CDs for a friends band using this method. They were by no means "professional", but for the average non-audiophile they were passable. Burned CDs actually being better than the previously used cassette tapes, anyway.

For example, my friends play live and I recorded each set with a laptop, thus typically ending up with 4 or 5 50 minute recordings in .wav files. I would transfer those files to my desktop and use WaveEdit to piece them together. I would edit the crowd noise between tracks to remove set breaks.

Starting with Windows 7, WaveEdit developed a quirk. It's kind of hard to describe, so I made some screenshots. If the end of one file did not match the start of the next one I would do this:

    1. Cut the end slightly for a clean break.

    2. Fade out the end.

    3. Highlight part of the end to match the volume as well as possible with the start of the next file.

    4. Cut the end off.

    5. Now the first part get faded out again, preventing completion of the edit.

If the sound levels are the same, the cut and matchup work fine. It only does that when you fade the end of the first part.

Does anyone know if this is an error or an option I'm not aware of?

As usual, Thank You in advance for any assistance.

    Ax

And by the way, Happy New Year!
