  1. Okay, I opened my mouth and promised something that I thought would be a piece of cake, especially beings I had done it before without ANY problems... Here is the situation:

I made a little picture slide show (complete with music) with windows movie maker, and wanted to make a vcd out of it, so I dug up and dusted off TMPGEnc and encoded it to a VCD compatible Mpeg, went to Nero (5.5.5.1) and went through the VCD screen and put in everything to burn it, no error messages nothing, Im cruising right along...Then it happens, I slide it into my dvd player to check out the goods and wouldnt you know it...IT WONT PLAY....Yes my DVD player is VCD compatible, I put my VCD's I burned months ago in and they play fine and dandy. I figure I messed up something in the conversion process, I dont know (thats where you come in)...I tried both NTSC and PAL

Also if I remember correctly before when I converted the file and I used the WMV file as the audio source and video source TMPGEnc would make the file without sound so I would always set the WMV file to the song but use that song mp3 file as the audio source. But now when I use the wmv file as both sources the mpeg plays on the pc fine, with the music...strange, but maybe that will help you help me...

Also forgot to mention I am using CD-R's (which is what I used before without any problems. Also the only thing I used Nero for since the successful VCD attempts was to backup PSX2 games, is there a setting that could have been switched there that is causing the problem?

    Thanks Millions in advance.

  3. now Im REALLY freaking.... frustrated cause I couldnt get that to work I decided to scrap the audio and try a simplified way of making a slide show using the method described at http://www.vcdhelp.com/nerophoto.htm but my DVD/VCD player wouldnt play that either I marked (NTSC) on Nero....Is it Nero thats my problem??? Is anyone else having problems with nero 5.5.5.1

  4. I beleive Easy CD Creator should let you create a slide VCD from scratch.

  5. Since you are stalled anyway, have you considered upgrading Nero to the current 5.5.8.2 build? There were some major bug fixes along the way, as well as many compatibility issues addressed and solved. Free download at nero.com

  6. Hey Mirror Image, can you tell me something about Nero 5.5.8.2? I downloaded it, and after I ran it, it upgraded my bundled version of Nero that I got with my Lite-On CD/RW. Is it suppossed to look so "Windows XP like" and should the splash screen say, " Nero Express" it upgraded with no problems and it says its v. 5.5.8.2. So I think everything is fine.

Just wondering, cause I also wanted to make a miniDVD/cDVD, but my only option was VCD or SVCD, no DVD. Whats up with that? Do I need a DVD writer in order for Nero to display a DVD option? Since I want to put my movie on a CD/RW anyway, I don't see what else it can be. I wanted to use nero, but with the upgrade, it won't give me the option. Is that how yours is too? do you get a DVD option?

  7. What do you mean "it won't play"? No sound? No video? No play time?

Did you check the mpg file that Tmpgenc created? Does that play?

  8. You_Are_Alive,

I get the DVD options/templates on the PC that has a DVD burner, but not on the PC that does not have a DVD burner.

Not sure about the mini-DVD thing - I use Ulead Video Studio 6 (more specifically the VCD-SVCD-DVD plug-in) to create VOBfiles/folders and to burn the few mini-DVDs that I do make (whether I use UVS6 to encode the mpg file to DVD compliance, or TMPGEnc instead to encode the mpg).

  9. Hey, you could download the free 30-day trial of UVS6 (or any other Ulead product that has the VCD-SVCD-DVD plug-in) and take a shot at using it to make a miniDVD out of your DVD-compliant MPG file.

It says invalid disk format in the DVD/VCD player... I play the Mpeg that Tmpgenc created and it works fine...

True Colts Blue Just read someone's post about having the same type problem after they copied a Ninteno CD with Nero. They found some cache settings in Nero set, after they cleared that it worked.

  13. I tried the clearing cache thing and it didnt work... I just reformatted my whole computer and restored everything back to its original state, then redownloaded my programs...and still nothing....

One question though, I noticed there is one extra check box on my version of Nero then the tutorials, on the burn tab is seamless link supposed to be checked or unchecked?

Well, based on the assumption that you have a Philips-manufactured CD-RW (apparently marketed under the "YUP" brand, wherever you are), then yes, check it - it's your buffer underrun (anti-coaster) protection.
