  1. I'm currently trying to play a mp4 4k video file from my NAS using MPC-HC and VLC. MPC-HC can play it but only loads 5 minutes of the nearly 2 hour video. VLC plays it as a complete pixelated mess. However, Media Player and the Movies & TV app on Windows seem to play it just fine.

Is there a bottle neck on the network transfer or is your PC too slow to play the file?

  3. If it were a network or PC issue I would think that Media Player would have issues playing it too, but it plays it just fine from my laptop. I tried on my desktop as well and the same issues persist with both MPC-HC and VLC, but not with Media Player or the Movies & TV app. Both on my desktop and laptop, Media Player and Movies & TV handle the file just fine.

Hi, do you have HW acceleration enabled in VLC?

  5. Hi Bernix. I've tried disabling HW-accelerated decoding in VLC preferences to no success.

I was thinking if you have HW acceleration ON in VLC. By default it is disabled. Also there is post processing settings, you can lower it to gain performance.

  7. Both on or off, it doesn't seem to fix the issue with playing the file.
