Hi all,
i often read that when doing Full Backups with MakeMkv or Xreveal you get perfect 1:1 copies of the BD.
Well, almost 1:1 because you get 1:1 copies without the copy protection stuff.
But i'm curious if there really isn't any difference between the rips made by different softwares.
Because i made the experience that some Blu-Rays' MakeMkv-backups converted to ISO don't play as smoothly as ISOs made directly with XReveal.
This applies to playing them back with BD-menus. When playing the movies back directly (and not via the BD menus) i don't notice any difference.
So what are your experiences?

That would depend on whether you check the "Decrypt video files" prior to ripping. It's possible to create a backup with video still encrypted.
If I'm not mistaken - please do correct me if wrong - MakeMKV doesn't backup in ISO. So with what tool did you convert mkv-backups to ISO? Also with XReveal? I heard of the software but haven't used it yet. -
yes, of course. should have mentioned that.
XReveal can rip the disc directly to ISO.
And yes, makeMKV can't make ISOs.
it creates backup folders instead (if you chose the backup-otion). I used imgBurn for making ISOs.
the reason why i created an ISO was because i noticed that one movie wouldn't show the BD-menu correctly on my Zidoo from a MakeMKV-backup.
The same movie ripped with Xreveal played the menu without problems.
which made me think that maybe the Player had difficulties with playing BD-menus from folder-backups.
So i created an ISO from the makeMKV-folder backup.
But this as well didn't play he menu as nicely as the Xreveal-backup.
So this is what makes me wonder if (and how) one 1:1 copy can be different from another 1:1 copy of the same disc -
My Zidoo Z9X shows seemingly erratic behaviour when opening (UHD)BD folder structure made by MakeMKV. Where I'm not sure to blame MakeMKV or Zidoo. I've been busy from september 2020 with their firmware "upgrades" and still not all basic operations are flawless.
Anyways, good to know that ISO by Xreveal works. Cheers for that. Will have a closer look at the tool. -
No, menus from ISOs by Xreveal don't work in each case.
On my Z9X Pro not all menus work as they should.
There are plenty that don't.
But in general they seem to be working better than from makeMKV-backups.
And than there are also mskeMKV folder backups where the menus work . But in those cases they work from rips made by Xreveal anyway.
Which confuses me since all claim that they are creating 1:1 rips.
Then there should be no difference in how they play menus... -
You guys are completely on the wrong track. The issues you are seeing are player related, not software related. I had never any issues playing ISOs made with AnyDVD, XReveal or the combination of Makemkv and Imgburn playing with my Clone Oppo. So get a player that has no issues like mine. The Ugos is also recommended lately.

I have the older M9702 but you will find the newer model M9201 or M9203.
The Ugoos AM68B+ also plays ISOs with menus if COREELEC is installed. Nothing to install on a Clone Oppo. -
i tried COREELEC with a Dune Homatics Box R 4K Plus because i read good reviews about it.
My problem is that i need the player mainly for 3D movies.
The Dune worked like crap with 3D so i returned it.
Lots of crashes and lags, menus mostly didn't work.
so i returned it and got the Zidoo Z9X Pro.
It might have some issues with the menu of one or the other ISO but at least it plays the 3D movies without any problems.
