  1. I am looking for device and/or app recommendations. I have a m3u file with various live channels. I want the tv to behave like this: when I turn it off and come back the next day and turn it on, the channel that was playing when I turned off the tv is playing. I should not have to navigate through any apps. I have firestick and tivimate and it does not behave this way. when I turn off my tv, tivimate exits. I used to have an infomir box which behaved this way, but I gave it up for some other problems that I dont remember.

Recommend that you use an android device or a computer. The HDMI out from the device is connected to the HDMI in of the television. The TV is now acting as a monitor. Play your m3u8 file on your device using say, VLC player. Once your input device is running and executing the VLC app, then the TV can be turned off then on and the video stream will be the same as it is coming from the external device. Your TV will retain the previous selected HDMI Input.
