    I have a movie I want to make a VCD of, but none of the tools I've found can convert it to a .DAT . It's a .AVI file, but mediaplayer 7 will not play it, so far the only thing that will play it is QT5, which says it's MPEG1 muxed. Is there any other way besides using QT to demux it and then something like vcdgear ro mux it back again?

    rename the .avi to .mpg
    and then try to author it as vcd and you will get a vcd with a .dat file
