  1. I have started a number of tutorials on yt-dlp and get to a point where errors occur either in the cmd version or with a GUI that go unexplained.

The error that says dll missing is api-ms-win-core-path-l1-1-0.dll
I found one of those but only for syst 32 not 64. Plus the dll site was old. Various tutorials jam too much info into one page
and usually do not begin with command line operators (which I've long forgotten) like how to navitage the cmd at all.

I've made the ytdlp directory at c:
I put all the executables in there including ffmpeg, yt-dlp and a 7zip as well

I tried one GUI but failed due to one or more errors. But I'd like to get one of the GUI's working for my old Win7 64. Much of this seems to be in the python or linux world adding more confusion.

I have an install of Win10 on a separate disk but only use that for things which require it (Handbrake, Subtitle Edit , not much else.)

Perhaps the required 64 bit dll is even in Videohelp software. I just don't know how to do any more.

If I have to start over I can do that. But it there's a one click install start to finish I have not found it. I can add screen shots as needed and this helps me with the process.

Here is all the stuff I put in c:\ytdlp

hello - it doesn't work on Windows 7. Most times when you get a missing dll error, that's the reason.

There may be some workarounds, possibly an unofficial version somebody has created.
Wait and see if you get further responses

    i think you'll have to install the x86 version of yt-dlp for windows 7 - https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubedl/comments/12bv1fo/ytdlp_on_windows7_sp1/

    Hi davenext,

It's good to know I might be spinning my wheels on Win7. I see another message below on it. What would be good to know from all the helps is if anyone has experienced actual success with it.

Sorry for the long quote. I've seen the reddit forum and their how-to from a post three years ago. What I need is someone who actually has yt-dlp going on Win 7 (or Win10) . There are several redditors that have given me advice. It works for them. On my Win7 it just doesn't take for reasons such as davenext explained above which is: if you have these errors it doesn't work.

The fallback for me is 3Dyoutubedownloader which works fine. I was interested in the yt-dlp for its features and my own curiousity about why it is preferred for streams other than youtube. I have none of the subscriptions and such for any of that.

    Yt-dlp works on Windows 10 as-is.
All you really need to do is place a copy of ffmpeg.exe
    in the same folder
I can't tell from your post what issues you had in Windows 10 specifically

  7. Thanks davenext,

I may try an install on Win10.
