    Hi guys

I used to do create DVDs by converting m2v to video and AC3 to audio and authoring in dvdlabpro, but now I have a bluray drive on the way, and I'm confused about which elementary FHD file I can get without having to re-encode the file when creating the disk. At the moment I only know TMPGENC Authoring but the MP4 files are always re-encoded and take hours to convert. Can you recommend another program without re-encoding?

  2. Is this for SD blu ray ? You have a SD m2v for the DVD and DVDLabPro . Where does the MP4 come from ?

The MP4 would only pass through if it was already BD compliant. If it used non-compliant encoding settings for BD, it needs to be re-encoded. That will happen with every BD authoring program - a non compliant source will get rejected

    No, it's 1440x1080p video mp4 file, but 40mbps bitrate

Where is the mp4 from ? e.g. camera etc..

What does mediainfo (view=>text) say about the file ?

There are a bunch of rules you have to follow for BD compliant streams, otherwise you don't get passthrough and it needs to be re-encoded for compliance

For example if the MP4 didn't use VBV buffer settings, it might cause buffering issues such as over/under flows. This would be rejected

1440x1080 for BD primary stream is only supported as 16:9 . A "square pixel" 4:3 is not supported and would need to be pillarboxed

  6. It has to be re-encoded for BD compliance

1440x1080 4:3 content needs to be pillarboxed to 1920x1080 for BD primary streams
Progressive 29.97 encoding is not compliant with BD - it needs to be encoded interlaced or mbaff
AAC audio is not compliant - audio needs to be re-encoded
Probably a bunch of other things not shown by mediainfo - such as no VBV settings , GOP length

  7. Yes, it's far away from BD specs compliance.
    FWIW here the video rules

And here the settings for compliant encoding using x264 encoder:
