So, what would be the PAR (SAR) for 720x544 PAL? The 720x576 PAL is 16:15 but this one escapes me.

  2. Nobody knows how it got to be 720x544. But the sampling aspect ratio is probably 1:1, or very close.

Pal dvd, 4x3 aspect ratio is 16:15
720x544 could be 720x480 resized to 4x3, giving par 1:1

Ok here I got another one. What would be the PAR for a 4x3 704x528 PAL? Btw. I really don't know where these strange resolutions came from.

  6. 704x528 is a 3:4 aspect ratio. So that's probably 1:1 SAR.

Originally it must have been DVB-T2 captures from 2017, as it is a HEVC/x265 file w/ TV logo on. But was it reencoded after the capture and whatever happened in between, if antyhing, I couldn't tell. Normally it would have been a 720x576 SD PAL (or 704x576) as such is/was the brodacast standard, and the source material was available only in SD. Not sure what the resolution is/was for 4:3 SD material when broadcast as HEVC/x265, if that was the broadcast standard upon digital caption of this source material.
