I have an old video that was originally shot on min-DV (I think) with the size being 720x576. Somewhere along the line I captured it to an AVI file with the same pic size. Sometime later it was recoded to MP4 format. I did not take much notice of the resulting file.
Now when I come to look at the mp4 file, it plays fine with the correct ration etc. However, the file properties show that its 352x572. If I load it into Premiere pro it plays fine with the correct ratio/size but the properties show as 352x572. So when I output out of PP it carries these properties with it.
I am very confused.

There is such a thing as non-square pixels, where as you've seen, the display size does not match the
physical file resolution.
It's achieved by stretching the pixels at runtime.
