Is the "slowness" because of the initial indexing step, or is it still "slow" after the indexing ?

Or is the "slowness" because of the filters you added ? If that is the case, then changing codec will not help much because the decoding speed is not the bottleneck

Depending on the source filter used (e.g. FFMS2, L-Smash, BestSource), the "slowness" might be only as the file is being indexed - once it's indexed it should be faster . If you use other codecs, you will experience the same thing initially. If you change the source filter to AVISource, it should open immediately, because it does not index. But MagicYUV or UTVideo will be the fastest for CPU decoding of lossless intermediates

The slowness appears during the first pass.
I didn't finish with HuffyUV but I noticed that 1 hour with filters, deinterlacing and upscaling with Lagarith took about 9 hours only for the first pass :P
While HuffyUV seems to be several hours faster during the first pass (haven't finished with HuffyUV though)

Are you talking about "exporting"? Because in the first post you mention "decoding", which is what PDR is talking about: opening/decoding the file before editing. The slowness appears during the first pass.

Hybrid does not support Lagarith, since there is no command line encoder with pipe input for it (as far as I know).
FFmpeg/libav can only decode Lagarith, but not encode to it.

Small tip, when using lossless content for input or output:
 a. make sure both input&output paths are excluded from virus scanners
 b. make sure input, output-path and temp-path are on different drives
 c. do not use AppData as your temporal folder
 (personally, I would prefer FFV1 ) )

Decoding with lagarith isn't your problem (decoding an SD Lagarith file is only taking a few minutes of those 9 hours). Deinterlacing, upscaling (and encoding?) are the bottlenecks.

Just as a point of reference, my computer (i9 9900) decodes NTSC Lagarath YUY2 video (AviSynth, LWlibavVideoSource) at about 800 frames per second. UTVideo at about 1100 frames per second.Last edited by jagabo; 13th Nov 2024 at 13:50.
