Free app for android to see files on PC

I want to try and setup a older android cellphone for imdb and free remote control app and I'm also looking for a way to view all files on PC from cellphone with hopefully a search feature and be able to click on the file on the phone and play it over PC. Is anything like this possible? I have a older phone that has been recently factory reset and I want to use it kind of like a smart remote if possible.

Any ideas of how to setup a phone like this would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't mind side loading, I like the Asus File Manager, available from apkmirror.com.
It can access the Windows network, has a high speed server accessible through the PC web browser
for fast up/downloading of big files and it's a great Android file manager

I decided to use my older poor quality 10" tablet instead since it is not really good for much. I will be using it to just click the file and have it automatically play on the PC tower so that way I don't need to use the mouse or keyboard for the tower to look for movies or TV show episodes. I plan to also setup my music the same way once I get everything finished.
