Think about this. Once bread becomes toast, you can't make it back into bread.

You don't need to re-encode again, just use the program to join the original audio with the encoded video.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
You did everything right.
The rest is done in minutes.
You just have to mux the other streams with the new video stream.
To do this, load your 4k carol.mkv, click main page, click multiplex.
You will see all streams (video, audio and subtitles) of your original video in light blue color.
Now drag & drop the newly encoded video into the multiplex grid.
It will be displayed in turquoise. Now deselect the light blue video stream (on the left-hand side).
All other streams should remain selected.
Select mp4 as container at the bottom and click multiplex.
Done.
If the new video still cannot be played on your PS4, change the profile level.
This is also an operation that takes very little time and does not result in any loss of quality.
To do this, load your newly muxed video, click main page, click various, click Change P-Level.
Select 4.2 (at set new level) and click Change.
This will change the entire video. You can use the output directly, without other operations. -
I kind of DO have to encode again, as I thought the file was defective and deleted it. Nobody told me the audio would be separate. It wasn't in the cmd version of ffmpeg...

Don't think that there's a need for that. After I last posted, I did some more searching and found a program called MkvDefaultTrackChanger. This lets you change the default subtitle track on mkv files. It seems to have worked.
Man, I wish I knew more about tech stuff. This has been a lot more complicated than it probably should have been...
Didn't work. My PS4 Pro CAN'T play mkv files as long as they're not hevc like I was told. Okay. I just tried running it through ffmpeg to get an mp4 file...which worked. At least it worked partly. I got the video and PART of the audio. I just got one track of english. It didn't have the other audio options, nor did the resulting files have any of the subtitles.
Can anyone help with this ? I would like at least the english subtitles.Last edited by Spottedfeather; 27th Oct 2024 at 08:15.

The mkv file WOULDN'T play on my PS4 Pro even though it's been said that it can play mkv as long as the file isn't hevc. Today, I get to spend 8 or 9 hours encoding the file again to get an mp4...unless there's a way to turn the mkv file into an mp4 file that's quicker...

Yes, you have:
1 videostream, AVC (h264), 1920x1440, 4:3, profile high, level 5.
2 audiostreams ac3, 192 kb/s, stereo (english and french).
2 subtitles (1 vobsub english, 1 timed-text english).
Try this video on your PS4.
If it still not play, change the profile level to 4.2 (as im my post #63).
This is fast and easy. -
