Hi, I've been gifted a Sanyo VTC 5000 and have an Elgato Video Capture USB id like to use to transfer with. Can anyone please let me know what cables I'll need please? (I only have the power for the machine and the Elgato currently)
Thank you 🙂

For the video: BNC (male) - RCA (male)
For the audio: RCA (male) - RCA (male)
I am not sure what kind of signal the VIDEO output provides. If it is a modulated RF signal rather than a PAL composite video signal it wouldn't be compatible with the Elgato.
Edit: In case of a modulated RF signal you would probably have to connect the SANYO to a legacy PAL TV and connect the TV's SCART output to the Elgato, means use the TV as a signal converter ......Last edited by Sharc; 3rd Oct 2024 at 05:17.

I have a Sanyo Beta VCR with similar output connectors and it is compatible with the GV-USB2 so I assume the Elgato will be OK.

For the audio: RCA (male) - RCA (male)
The Elgato software might have the ability to double a mono input into "stereo". -
That's good news. The manual is very vague as to what kind of signal/format the VIDEO OUTPUT connector provides.
It mentiones an RF converter which can be set to CH30....39 for "RF Output". No mentioning of disabling it or providing standard Composite output at the VIDEO OUTPUT BNC connector.
Anyway, you have a SANYO Beta VCR and it seems to work.Last edited by Sharc; 3rd Oct 2024 at 07:00.

See the setup for the SANYO VTC5000 here:

.... I've had the machine connected through to an old CRT 14" TV and from there used a scart to comp cable with the USB capture device to my laptop in order to capture the signal to virtualdub. ....

Here the connectors of a not-so-legacy TV. The SCART connectors support composite IN and OUT, plus RGB

Well, I have no proof either. The idea is to enter into the TV via the RF antenna plug (the SANYO has an RF modulator) and output via SCART composite. I never tried myself but I understood that this is what the other poster did.
Hopefully obsolete as per Alwyn's experience with his SANYO beta VCR. -

Re the Elgato, if you are using the Elgato capture software (as opposed to a lossless workflow), you may find of interest from Elgato (found on the internet):
"The value used by the Elgato Video Capture software is the default that is useful in most situations. That said, it can be changed by doing the following:
1) Quit the Video Capture software if it's running, via the tray icon.
2) Start File Explorer and enter the following path in the address bar: %appdata%\Elgato\VideoCapture
3) Edit the Settings.xml file with Windows Notepad or other text editing software.
4) Replace <VideoBitrateScale>.75</VideoBitrateScale> with a higher value, up to 3.5 maximum.
5) Save the Settings.xml file.
6) Relaunch the Video Capture software.
Please note the recording file sizes will be larger after doing this."Last edited by Alwyn; 4th Oct 2024 at 21:05.

The BNC video out on your VCR is composite a.k.a CVBS, If it was RF it wouldn't have an audio jack next to it because RF carries both video and audio. You may need a RCA splitter for audio, Even if it's coming from the same source, sometimes you get half the audio gain if doubled in software, not sure why, just a personal observation.
-
So I assume that the built-in "RF Converter" and "CHANNEL ADJUSTMENT" of the SANYO sets the TV channel at the ANT OUT for playing the tapes on legacy CRT TVs which did not have a Composite (aka CVBS) input but only an antenna input.
The manual is not very clear.
Thanks.

The ANT OUT could be RF out if the switch on the far left is set to TUNER, I could be wrong. If I was the OP I will toss that VCR in the trash bin and get a good VCR, but some people have sentimental attachment to certain gear they used at a younger age.
