  1. does anyone know which (if any) blu ray players can be hacked with the remote, besides philips and r4 players from australia? i've had good luck at goodwill with philips, but they don't always have philips. when i still used dvd players, i found that most toshibas & some samsungs could be hacked.
    thanks.

  2. In North America, the following brands had blu-ray players that allowed for switching regions with the remote. Typically, you would push "setup" and then enter "8520" or "1369" to access the region settings menu. Then you can change regions using the remote ("1" for Region A, "2" for Region B, "4" for Region C).

    Seiki
    iVid
    Orei
    Avol
    Toshiba (BDX1200 model only)

I think your best bet would be Seiki. Their players were widely available and sold at box stores like Wal-Mart, Sears, and K-Mart.

    * Also keep in mind that Panasonic Blu-ray players can play most Region B titles by pressing "Stop, Top Menu" after the region locking screen appears. This seems to work on about 80% of discs, in my experience. I think this trick may also work on Philips players.
