Hi I'm new to Video Editing even though I'm ancient
I went to the Ediburgh Tattoo last week and shot a lot of video's on my Panasonic Lumix FZ300 (needed the zoom)
Unforunately where I was seated people kept passing by my field of view, to go to the toilet I guess.
So obviously I would like to edit it all into one movie.
I would preferably like a FREE software as times are hard on a pensioner lol and years ago I tried windows movie maker.
I belive it no longer exists now and replaced with "ClipChamps" is that correct, if so I only have windows 10, and I don't think it'll work on that (right?)
Can anyone help me with an easy-to-use editor, please?

    Bob

Try Shotcut (Free) or TS Doctor (30 days fully functional trial. Works well with *.ts files but worth trying if your video extension is not *.ts)

There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube.
This one might be relevant to your case, but there are a lot more.

    Yes thank you.
If it was *.ts then TS Doctor would have been a lot easier to get rid of multiple unwanted sections.

I am not saying that it is better for 4K.
It has a more friendly user interface for cutting off unwanted multiple video sections.
I use it all the time to get rid of commercials from satellite channels.

    Bit confussed with this one.
I looked into a youtube tutorial, and the guy stated it doesn't need to be downloaded
So, how does it work please?
Sorry If I've got it wrong

  16. Both Sony Movie Studio and ShotCut have simmilar characteristics and both a reasonably powerful editors, if you have both installed, decide which interface makes you feel more confortable, as previously noted there are many tutorials online. maybe right now you just want to cut unwanted sections of your videos but once you start using one of these editing softwares you´ll find the extra features very nice (like transitions between scenes, the ability to add music or sound effects to your videos, text overlays, etc) By the way the FZ300 is a very nice and capable camera, I have one as well, here´s some interesting tutorials which also may help you:

    Thanks, julitomg
I will look at both as you say and try to get my head sorted
I haven't had the FZ300 long, so still on the learning curve, thanks to Graham Hoghton.
I have the beginners guide on YouTube by him (very helpful)
It's the first time I've used it for videos, so hopefully I can get editing soon (fingers crossed)
Have you used yours for the 4k video yet?

  18. Hello foxeybob
Yes I have recorded some video in 4K but keep in mind that the camera´s sensor isn´t very large but with good light and the apropriate settings (like exposure, shutter, ISO, etc) you can get more than acceptable results. You can even get very nice macro images without any special adapters or lenses and the long zoom is a plus as you have already noticed, (a tripod is a must for certain scenes), I´d start by shooting in full HD unless you really need to work in 4K and use the mp4 mode rather than the AVCHD mode.

    morning julitomg
interesting advice on 4K thank you, but yes, I will stick to MP4 for now, 4K maybe when I get more proficient
TBO I wondered how on earth 4 K can work with such a small sensor, and found this from GrahamHoughton....

Since your post Tree Tops, I got a bit scared, so thought I'd try Windows Movie Player.
Unfortunately I cannot download it due to expiring (I think).
So, ideally, I would like to go with CapCut, as all the information (YouTube etc) rave about it when I searched.
It was recommended to me by a well-known movie/ Photo edited, whose name I won't mention.

    Here is one.....

  24. For an easy-to-use, free video editing software that's compatible with Windows 10, consider trying DaVinci Resolve. It's a professional-grade tool that's surprisingly accessible for beginners and offers extensive features without any cost. Another good option is Shotcut, which is straightforward and also free. Both programs will allow you to trim and merge your clips, stabilize shaky footage, and make other adjustments to enhance your Edinburgh Tattoo video. If you’re looking for something even simpler, VLC Media Player includes basic editing features, but for more detailed work, DaVinci Resolve or Shotcut will be more suitable.

I don't know why so many people always suggest Shotcut as free/opensource video editor.

It's decent, but very limited in functionality (you can't even have bins/containers for organizing files.. ) and with an awkward interface/gui.

Kdenlive (also opensource and free) is much better and advanced in comparison.. and it's very similar in its workflow and GUI to professional software like Adobe Premiere.

Obviously DaVinci Resolve is on another level.. it's a professional software vastly used in the industry, but I think KDenLive it's pretty good to be opensource and free, it has every tool needed for both basic and advanced video editing.

    Thank you for that krymoon.

As it happens the guy who recommended Capcut (who is a profesional Photographer/editer) for me now uses Davici Resolve.
Bit would that be too difficult for me, a complete beginner?

Also, is shotcut or Kdenlive chinese software?

At the moment, I'm trying 0ut CapCut, and tried to make a timeline of the vids, and unfortunately I've made a hash of it so far,
I can't see how to delete the timeline I have, in order to start again, unless I need to go to SpecSavers
Any help will be very much apreciated, Thanks

Everything depends on your past experience with Video Editing software: if you, for example, used Premiere in the past, software like DaVinci Resolve or KdenLive should be very intuitive and easy to manage.

Otherwise.. it should require some time to get comfortable with them.

KdenLive for me is the best opensource alternative to Professional video editing software (I'm currently using it for everything) and it's "easier" to learn than DaVinci.. because it has less functionality and less "very advanced" stuff in it. While KDenLive has everything you need to do basic or advanced editing.. DaVinci is so packed with very advanced features and function (you'll probably never use) that may be a lot more confusing if you're not a very advanced user.

Anyway.. both Shotcut and KdenLive are 100% Opensource and free software born in the Linux community.. so they're not Chinese (or any nationality for what does matter) and you can use them without any fear: they don't collect your data nor have anything that can harm your System (their code is opensource and available to everyone).

I'll drop CapCut if I were you.
It's nothing more than a (very) basic software.. with a lot of limitations.
"Easy" doesn't necessarily mean streamlined or efficient.

And most of the so-called "easy" software are... simply .. (very) limited in their functionality.
