  1. Hello folks. I'm a bit of a newbie, but have been practicing for a week or 2!

I downloaded a movie clip over the weekend. When I unpacked it, there was a .bin file but no .cue file.

How do I get a .cue file? Can you make it yourself? Is there a program to sort this out? Or is the file no good to me?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Thanks for offering help by pointing me in the right direction, but I'm still lost. What is vcdxrip? is it a stand alone application? if so where can I get it? If not what other program can perform this?

    Thanks again

VCDxRIP is a standalone tool, that comes with the VCDImager package.

    Usage: vcdxrip [OPTION...]
-o, --output-file=FILE specify xml file for output (default:
    'videocd.xml')
-b, --bin-file=FILE set image file as source (default: 'videocd.bin')
--sector-2336 use 2336 byte sector mode for image file
--cdrom-device=DEVICE set CDROM device as source
--nrg-file=FILE set NRG image file as source
    --no-ext-psd ignore /EXT/PSD_X.VCD
    --norip only extract XML structure
    --nofiles don't extract files
    --nosequences don't extract sequences
--nosegments don't extract segment play items
    -p, --progress show progress
    -v, --verbose be verbose
-q, --quiet show only critical messages

Let's say you have copied the FILE.bin to e:\divx\
Copy vcdxrip.exe to e:\divx\ too, open the command line console, change to e:\divx\ and type
    >vcdxrip -o filename.xml -b FILE.bin.

You will end with a mpg (or several mpegs) and a .xml, that you need to reauthor.
Copy vcdxbuild (comes with VCDImager too) to e:\divx\

    Usage: vcdxbuild [OPTION...]
-i, --image-type=TYPE specify image type for output (default:
    'bincue')
    -o, --image-option=KEY=VALUE specify image option
-c, --cue-file=FILE specify cue file for output (default:
    'videocd.cue')
-b, --bin-file=FILE specify bin file for output (default:
    'videocd.bin')
--cdrdao-file=FILE specify cdrdao-style image filename base
--sector-2336 use 2336 byte sectors for output
    -p, --progress show progress
    -v, --verbose be verbose
-q, --quiet show only critical messages

Open the command line console, change to e:\divx\ and type >vcdxbuild filename.xml. By default you will end with videocd.bin and videocd.cue. Of course you can edit the .xml between the two steps, e.g. if you want to set different entry points or if you want to write a different disk format at all.

  5. The VCDXRIP + VCDXBUILD route is great if you have a CUE/BIN image of a S/VCD with a missing CUE file.

If you are unfamiliar with using command console tools, I suggest that you download VCD Easy. Among being quite a good GUI for the VCD authoring aspects of VCDImager, it also contains GUIs for the VCDXRIP and VCDXBUILD tools.
