I use Txt2Sup to convert SRT to SUP, so I can mux subtitles with dvd video in Muxman. However, it ignores the italicizing formatting so the text comes out normal. The formatting uses angle brackets, like this: <i>text</i>
The option to set italics is available, but that's for the entire subtitle file.
I tried easysup, but only saw output for "BD Sup," and muxman wouldn't use it.
Anyone know how to get this to work? Does the SRT file need to be a certain encode format? I've used ANSI and UTF-8.

UTF-8 should work
Use Subtitleedit for the conversion.

Except UTF-8 didn't work. Does it require "with BOM"?
I ran SubtitleEdit before but the only "SUP output I could find (under EXPORT and SAVE AS) was "Bluray sup" which from earlier experience wasn't accepted by Muxman.
The only other program I've tried that worked was Subtitlecreator, but it seems like it changed/shortened the display times. -
Export as vobsub in subtitleedit for dvd authoring.

You can only choose one of the vob files to mux,the other will be included.

I don't think Muxman accepts idx/sub format, so I was asking how I would mux those.
So does anyone know if txt2sup can be set to recognize the italicize coding, or is that a limitation? I also tried utf8 Bom, no change.Last edited by spiritgumm; 28th Jul 2024 at 14:07.

Maybe the paid version would accept VOB and demux on the fly.... The free version doesn't do that. By definition, it can only accept demuxed, separated files. The video format would be m2v. The only subtitle formats acceptable are SUP and SST.
Vobsub does not convert to SRT file to one of those formats. It outputs idx/sub format, so I would need some other muxer than muxman. That was my later question, although it would be alot easier if txt2sup worked. Or Subtitlecreator kept the display times accurately. -
I have done some tests with muxman.
The following works with the Italian accents.
Use subtitle edit, load your srt, export to vobsub (idx/sub).
Make your settings regarding color, outlines, size, font etc.
Then use SubToSup to turn the idx into a sup file.
This sup file will be accepted by muxman. -
Suffice to say neither of these solutions are good.
I did some googling, and one user asserted that Txt2sup cannot read style coding, tho he wasn't the creator.
It's an odd bottleneck that subtitle creation software generally ignores SUP (and SST which is for MAC) format AND it's the only subtitle format Muxman uses. -
.SST is not "for Mac". Two decades ago, I used MaestroSBT to create .sst subtitles for DVD-lab Pro. But MaestroSBT does not accept .srt files, it works with the .SSA format only. And if I remember correctly, Txt2Sup has another serious limitation, it doesn't like subtitle entries with more than two lines.👎😒

Subtitles are typically limited to 2 lines (in dvds, at least) so that's never been an issue (for me). Maybe for blu-ray? Or maybe you mean it doesn't correct for more than 2 lines with wraparound, which would be better addressed in a subtitle editor.
The google results for SST subtitles were on Apple sites, and sounded like it was designed for MAC, my mistake. -
Well, since the tools like Txt2Sup and Subtitles Creator (Subtitles.exe) are very-primitive && "quick-and-dirty",
it seems you'll have no other way besides converting your .srt files to the SSA format and then use MaestroSBT."Programmers are human-shaped machines that transform alcohol into bugs."
